Child Safety and Wellbeing

The Child Safe Standards came into effect in July 2022 and are a vital part of what we do at our school. Victorian schools are required under the Child Safety and Wellbeing Act to ensure that they implement these eleven compulsory Standards to protect students from harm. The Child Safe Standards set out to create safe places for students to fully and actively participate in community life.
As a community we are committed to the safety, participation and empowerment of all students. Allegations and safety concerns are treated seriously and consistently with our robust policies and procedures. Meeting the Standards is about considering the needs of all children, particularly those who may be vulnerable due to age, family circumstances, abilities, or indigenous, cultural or linguistic backgrounds.
But what do these standards look like in practice? In future newsletters we will look at each standard in closer detail and explain some of the ways we work to embed these in our school culture. As valuable partners in promoting and maintaining child safety and wellbeing at our school, we welcome and encourage your feedback. Our School Child Safety Officers are Mrs Chesterfield and Mrs Glatz and can be contacted on 5382 3000 or by email – principal@smjhorsham.catholic.edu.au
