What's Happening In Secondary

News and Information from Secondary

High School Futsal Competition

Last Wednesday and Thursday we had six teams of students from Year 7-9 compete at the North-West Tasmania School Futsal Competition.

Both days were full of strong competition and great teamwork from all our students as they represented our school with pride. A special congratulations is due to our Year 7/8 girls who won their competition in an exciting Grand Final. Congratulations on your win!

7/8/9 German Class

This term our combined 7/8/9 German class will be exploring the language and culture of Germany. We’ll be learning how to introduce ourselves, greet others and share simple information.

Along the way we’ll delve into cultural aspects of Germany such as traditions, celebrations, food, music and sport. We’re looking forward to seeing how the German speaking countries (Germany, Switzerland and Austria) go in the Eurovision song contest this coming weekend and we’ll look into the culture and history of the contest.

In June we’ll be exploring Germany’s strong football culture and follow Germany and Australia’s progress in the FIFA World Cup. We’ll also have the opportunity to sample some German food later in the term. All in all, we’re anticipating a fun, language and culture packed term!

Fundraiser for MPFG - Thank you!

We are excited to share that our casual clothes fundraiser on the last day of Term One raised $1830 (80,000 pesos) for MPFG. Our Year 10 team in the Philippines had the honour of presenting a cheque to Pastor Primrose and she shared with them the huge impact that this amount of money will have on their community.

Thank you to all of our DCS families for your contributions, together we can make a difference!

Year 7 Rise & Shine Breakfast

A reminder to our Year 7 students and families that our Rise and Shine Breakfast is happening tomorrow Thursday 14th May from 7:30am to 8:30am.

The move from primary to secondary is a big step - not just for students, but for parents too. In the busyness of new routines and changing structures, it is easy to lose the sense of connection with other families and with your child’s teachers. We want to make sure that doesn’t happen.

This breakfast is a chance to pause and reconnect. You will share a relaxed morning with your child, meet other parents, and get to know some of the teachers and support staff who are walking alongside them in this new season. Students will also guide you through a short task they have prepared, giving you a glimpse into what they have been learning and how they are settling in.

We have intentionally timed this early in the day so you can hopefully come by on your way to work. Siblings are very welcome—we would love to see the whole family if that makes it easier for you to join us.

Athletics Carnival

Our Secondary Athletics Carnival will be held at the Penguin Athletic track on Thursday 28th May, and we couldn’t be more excited! Everything will be ready to go, and we are looking forward to a fantastic day filled with cheering, smiles, and celebrating the achievements of our wonderful Secondary students.

We warmly invite all parents, families, and friends to come along and join in the fun. Please bring a hat and a picnic rug, and settle in to enjoy the day.

DCS Community has organised the Small Brew Coffee Van to help keep staff and parents caffeinated throughout the day. All beverages from Small Brew will be complimentary for parents and staff. Secondary students are welcome to purchase drinks at their own expense.

We are also delighted to once again welcome Rory’s Hot Spuds food van, which will be on site serving meals and cold drinks for parents and staff throughout the day.

In addition, a small student canteen will be available, offering items such as Gatorade, lolly bags, and chocolate bars, with prices ranging from $2.00–$5.00. Both cash and EFTPOS payments will be accepted.

But wait, there's more....

Don’t tell the students… We’ve heard that some students might try to convince their parents to skip Secondary Athletics Day (because apparently parents don't attend secondary events...). But at DCS, we love having our parents involved and partnering with us to make school events special!

So, we’re adding a little extra incentive for parents to jump in on the fun

Come along, dress up in your House colours, and cheer loudly! The top three parents, family or friends who display the best DCS team spirit over the day will walk away with fuel voucher prizes:

  • $100 for first place
  • $75 for second place
  • $50 for third place

Bring the colour, bring the energy, and be part of the excitement as you cheer our students on. We can’t wait to see you there!

Year 11 & 12 Pathways at Leighland Christian School

Over the course of this year Leighland team members will be visiting DCS to connect with our senior students. And our DCS students will be invited to Leighland activities and events to enhance these connections.

Families exploring Year 11 and 12 options for 2027 are strongly encouraged to book a tour at Leighland Christian School for further information.
