Celebrating NAIDOC Week

Our school community came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week, recognising and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions.

The celebration began with a special assembly, where Harmoniie Barber delivered a wonderful speech highlighting the history of NAIDOC Week and the importance of recognising and respecting First Nations peoples and cultures. We congratulate Harmoniie on her thoughtful and engaging contribution.

Following the assembly, students participated in an exciting NAIDOC scavenger hunt and quiz, an engaging event created by Sale College student Maddison Hill. Students put their knowledge to the test, worked together and learned more about the significance of NAIDOC Week. As a thank you for participating, students received NAIDOC socks and were invited to enjoy a BBQ lunch.

A huge thank you goes to Kim McLaughlin for her outstanding support in organising and running the event. We would also like to acknowledge Jayda Green for her work on the day and her ongoing support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at Maffra Secondary College including Ruby Cassidy and Chale Watts who supported in a touching Acknowledgement of Country. Her continued commitment to supporting our students and fostering a welcoming and inclusive school community is greatly valued.

To finish the day, our whole school community came together for a group photo beneath the NAIDOC posters, providing a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our shared learning, respect and community spirit.

Thank you to  all who also contributed to making this a meaningful and memorable celebration!
