Year 3

In English Innovation, students will develop their persuasive writing skills by learning to clearly communicate their opinions, construct convincing arguments and support their ideas with relevant reasons and examples. Through debating, they will strengthen their speaking, listening, collaboration and critical-thinking skills while learning to consider different perspectives and respond respectfully to others. Students will also refine their ability to organise their ideas and use persuasive language to influence their audience. Throughout these learning experiences, they will demonstrate key innovator dispositions, including curiosity, creativity, reflection and collaboration.

In Mathematics Innovation, students will investigate numbers and explore patterns, relationships and strategies that support flexible mathematical thinking. They will develop their understanding of addition, subtraction and multiplication, making connections between these operations and exploring multiplicative thinking. Students will engage in a range of mathematical challenges where they will apply their knowledge, identify patterns and explore concepts such as factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers. Through collaborative problem-solving, students will explain and justify their thinking while developing confidence and flexibility when working with numbers.

Languages Innovation

This term, students will continue their journey into the fascinating world of Ancient Chinese inventions, with a special focus on woodblock printing, one of China’s important contributions to the way information and ideas were shared.

Year 3 and 4 students will discover how woodblock printing was used in Ancient China to create pictures and written texts. Through fun, hands-on activities, students will explore the printing process, create their own designs and learn useful Chinese words and characters connected to the topic.

Through these activities, students will build a deeper understanding of Chinese culture, history and innovation while learning in a creative and engaging way.

Year 3 STEAM Innovation will begin with students exploring the core principles of interior and exterior design. Students will start the semester with product and industrial design, learning to blend functionality with aesthetics through design sketching, evaluating the environmental impact of everyday items and applying Dieter Rams’ 10 Principles of Good Design to create their own furniture line.

Next, students will examine global stadium architecture, analysing how structural choices cater to specific sports. Applying these insights, the unit will culminate in students designing a model Olympic Stadium and Village for the Brisbane 2032 Games.
