Year 1

In STEAM Innovation, students will continue exploring science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics through hands-on experiments and activities. The term will begin with an investigation of life cycles, culminating in a hands-on bean-planting project where students will discover what plants need to thrive while observing the stages of growth from seed to sapling. To wrap up the semester, students will examine iconic sports stadiums from around the world to identify their essential design features before working in teams to design and build a model stadium for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.

In Robotics Innovation, Year 1 students will explore the exciting world of robotics and coding through hands-on experiences with Bee-Bots and Spheros. Students will learn how to create and sequence simple instructions to control their robots’ movement and direction. They will use their coding skills to program robots to create letters, shapes and pathways while developing their understanding of patterns, sequencing, spatial awareness and cause and effect.

Students will also develop their problem-solving skills as they predict what their robots will do, test their programs and work out how to fix their code when things do not go as planned.
