Principal's Report

Thank you to all our Year 3 & 5 students and staff who kept 'cool in a crisis' when the NAPLAN test experienced issues. As reported in the media, the online NAPLAN platform crashed during the writing test. This impacted about 1.3 million students across Australia (Years 5, 7 & 9). Many schools could not log in; however, we had the situation where tests froze mid-assessment. We followed the advice from the authority that runs NAPLAN (ACARA), so thankfully, since Wednesday, we have experienced no further issues. Thank you to Mr Dupuy, who has overseen NAPLAN testing. An update has also been provided on the Teaching and Learning page of the newsletter.

Since we have had both hot and cooler days this week, I have noticed that some students are not wearing the correct school uniform (particularly school jumpers). This is just a reminder, especially as we head into colder weather, that we have a student dress code requiring all students to wear the correct school uniform from the 'waist up'.

Below the waist, students do not need to wear a WPS-branded uniform, but it must be PLAIN NAVY. If you have any questions about our uniform, please feel free to call the school or visit our school website @ https://www.whittleseaps.vic.edu.au/page/30/School-Uniform

A highlight of 2026 has been our podcast club. A huge thank you to Mrs Murphy and Ms Carroll, who are leading this group of students. As you will be able to hear, the club is growing and is becoming a feature of our weekly newsletter - we hope you enjoy it!

Lastly, I would like to remind everyone about attendance. The Department of Education provides a live dashboard that shows the school's attendance compared with similar schools, the network (Whittlesea LGA) and the State. The visual below shows that whilst we have a fantastic attendance of 90.4% (students with 95% or higher), there is still room for improvement compared to those other categories.
