Dear parents and carers,
As indicated in a Compass post last week, I wanted to again bring attention to the work currently happening across the school around respect, inclusion and the impact of our words on others.
Over the past few weeks, teachers from Year 1 to Year 6 have been engaging students in discussions and learning about respectful language and understanding the diversity within our community. As part of this learning, students watched and discussed a short video that helped prompt important conversations about racism, empathy and treating others with respect.
At Keelonith Primary School, we are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all members of our community. We have zero tolerance for racism, and it is important that we continue to educate and support students to understand why respectful behaviour and language matter.
While there have been a small number of recent incidents that highlighted the need for this work, they have also provided an opportunity for learning and reflection across the school.
To further support this work, I have recently connected with the Centre for Multicultural Youth who have provided us with resources to help support us.
It has also been fantastic to see our School Captains taking initiative, organising a Harmony Week celebration to recognise and celebrate the diversity within our school.
We appreciate the continued support of our families as we work together to ensure Keelonith remains a respectful, inclusive and safe learning environment for all students.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Matt Cook
