Maryborough Lead Up

Next week, 50 level 6 students head to Maryborough, Victoria to compete in the annual Energy Breakthrough Challenge. 6 teams will compete in 2 events, Push Carts and Human Powered Vehicles, across 2-3 days of competition against other primary schools from across Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales.

The push cart teams will compete in 3 races to score the quickest times with all 8 team members involved.They will push and drive through obstacles, sprint event and an endurance event.  Along with the scores from their video presentation and the Design and construction component, our 3 teams will battle it out against 20 others to hopefully come away with some medals and awards.

Our 3 HPV teams (Vanquish, Shazzam and Raptor) will compete in a 14 hour race spanning 2 days. The teams of 8 (4 boys and 4 girls) will take it in turns racing around the 1.56km track completing as many laps as possible against 90+ other teams. Some students will ride for as long as 1 hour, averaging over 37kph.

Along with their marks for Presentations and Design and Construction, they will be aiming for the highest score possible. Lets see if they can be Raptor’s team from 2024’s performance of finishing second overall.

The students, teachers and parents have worked extremely hard all year. Some students have competed in 4-5 races during the year, as well as their own fitness training to prepare for this event.
