Big Summer Read Challenge
The Big Summer Read is a reading challenge running across all Victorian public libraries, including Glen Eira Libraries, from 1 December 2024 to 31 January 2025.
The challenge aims to encourage children and their families to keep reading over the school break and help combat the ‘summer slide’ in literacy.
Glen Eira Libraries are giving away some amazing prizes, such as $50 Lego vouchers and a Luna Park Family pass.
You can participate in one of the following ways:
- Head to the Read Books website and register for an account.
- Pick up a reading log from your local library, record the books read and fill in your details.
Holiday reading fun with Kilvington Library
Students are most welcome to borrow books over the holidays! However, we also encourage you to pop into your local library, they often have fun events for those super-hot days or even those non-stop rainy summer days.
For long car rides, audiobooks are a great way to keep entertained. Check out our two digital platforms on the refreshed KCEE Library page by clicking the Reading icon. We’ve recently subscribed to Sora (OverDrive), providing access to ebooks, audiobooks, and over 700 digital magazines!
If you prefer a more traditional approach, try Jack Henseleit’s Family Road Trip Games: A Pocket Book of Activities, Puzzles and Trivia to Play on the Go. This nostalgic collection of games has become a family favorite—even on short trips to the shops!
On behalf of all the Library staff at Kilvington, we wish you a joyful and safe holiday break. We can’t wait to see you in the new year for more exciting reading challenges and book activities!
