Prep and Year 6 Teddy Bear Picnic

Karen Chandler,  Deputy Head of Junior School

Our Prep and Year 6 buddies have shared an incredible journey together this year, forming meaningful connections.

Recently, they came together for their annual Teddy Bear Picnic — a special farewell celebration marking their final interaction as buddies for 2024.

What made this picnic extra special? Our Prep students took charge of everything! They began by creating invitations and then planning what was needed to feed over 70 people, plus their teddy bears! This involved many Maths skills such as counting, adding, measuring, dividing and estimating.

The picnic was great fun, with socialising, singing, dancing and getting to share the experience with the Year 6 buddies. What a wonderful way to celebrate and end the year together!

Year 3 - Caterpillar to butterfly transformation

Arya Choksi, Year 3

In Term 4, Year 3s experienced something brilliant: watching the transformation of caterpillars into butterflies.

It was a long, but amazing process. Over six to seven weeks, we studied the butterfly life cycle, learning about the fascinating process of metamorphosis, where caterpillars become butterflies.

Once we got the little critters in our room, our teacher said, 'First, you must avoid disturbing the caterpillars while they're eating, or they won't be strong enough to make a cocoon once they're in their chrysalis'. Later, as the chrysalis became transparent, we could see part of the butterfly’s wing — it was orange and black in colour, showing us it would become a monarch butterfly. - Aryan

Out of the ten caterpillars we started with, four successfully progressed to the cocoon stage. We waited eagerly and patiently and on 19 November the first cocoon cracked—a thrilling moment! Soon after, the second one broke free! We were amazed at how such beautiful butterflies could come out from such tiny chrysalises.

Two days later, once the butterflies had time to adjust, Year 3s freed them outside … where they belong. One of the butterflies had a folded wing, but to our surprise, it survived. Sadly, the third butterfly to emerge from its cocoon didn’t make it.

This was a wonderful experience, and all the Year 3s loved watching the awe-inspiring metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly.

Year 6 Graduation Ceremony

On Friday 6 December, our Junior School graduates had an incredible morning filled with heartfelt speeches, beautiful performances and proud parents as we celebrated the graduation of our Year 6 students from Junior School.

We are so proud of everything you’ve accomplished and wish you all the best as you embark on your next academic chapter!

Year 6 Digital Technologies

Chelsey Li, Year 6

This term in Digital Technologies, the Year 6s have been creating interactive virtual realities inspired by our own lives.

Using CoSpaces, a 3D coding app, we had so much fun experimenting with objects and coding to bring our ideas to life. It was exciting to see how our classmates worked with different codes and games to create unique experiences. There were some frustrating times, but all in all, it was an amazing experience!

You can scan the QR codes on the attached file to experience the VR autobiographies firsthand. Just be sure to have the CoSpaces app downloaded on your device.

On behalf of the Year 6s, we’d like to thank Mrs Yeung for organising this fantastic project!

Year 11 Media excursion - Tipping Point

Zach McDonald and Krystal Kalaitzidis, Year 11

On Wednesday 27 November, the Units 1&2 and 3&4 Media classes had the exciting opportunity to participate as the live studio audience of the popular game show Tipping Point

This unforgettable excursion gave us a unique glimpse into the world of television production and the effort it takes to create a polished show for viewers.

Our day began with an introduction from Michael Pope, who explained what we would be doing as the audience, such as giving big reactions to enhance the show's stage presence. We then recorded two live episodes of Tipping Point, cheering, clapping and asking questions of Michael Pope and host Todd Woodbridge about the production details of the show.

Next, we enjoyed a fascinating studio tour. We explored the backstage control room, where technicians worked diligently to manage the show’s visuals and audio while monitoring live camera feeds on rows of screens. We also visited a large, empty studio space, which gave us a sense of the vast resources and potential available in professional production facilities.

One of our main highlights was getting to be part of the live audience for the game show, and seeing the excitement of contestants winning prizes and money! We also appreciated gaining a behind-the-scenes perspective on the inner workings of the show, including seeing the camera setup rooms, production areas, and offices equipped with advanced computer technology.

Overall, we are thankful for the opportunity to view and take part in the intricate processes that bring a TV show to life!
