Road Safety Message

A letter from Knox City Council
To the Parents of Karoo Primary School,
This is a friendly reminder from Knox City Council to raise awareness regarding parking behaviours and restrictions when picking up and dropping off your children.
Please DO NOT park in front of any driveways, as this is prohibited and poses a risk in the event of an emergency. Vehicles must not be left unattended or be stopped for longer than two minutes when dropping off and picking up passengers in this manner. This is a parking offence and very inconsiderate to the residents.
Additionally, here are some other safety tips to keep you and your children safe around cars:
- Park the car in a legal parking area (in all weather conditions) and walk your child or meet them at the school gate.
- Avoid parking on or calling children from the opposite side of the road. Excited children often dash out onto the road and forget to look for traffic.
- Avoid letting children walk through car parks. Teach them the dangers of reversing vehicles, cars on the move, etc.
- Do not park within 20 metres of the approach side and 10 metres of the departure side of a school crossing.
- Never double park, as this causes congestion and delays everyone.
