Our younger students explored basic Mandarin words about colours through a lively Chinese idiom story. This week, the main words we focus on are 绿色(green),黑色 (black), 红色 (red) and 黄色 (yellow). By acting out the story and using song, movement and drawing, our students began to recognise and say new words with confidence.
Older students began their virtual journey to China by learning:
Greetings such as 你好 (nǐ hǎo – hello), 再见 (zài jiàn – goodbye), and 你好吗?(nǐ hǎo ma? – How are you?)
-Cultural knowledge, with a special focus on one of China’s most famous landmarks — the Great Wall of China (长城 – cháng chéng).
Students explored why the Great Wall was built, what it looks like today, and its importance in Chinese history.
Ask your child to teach you a new word they learned (e.g. colours) — let them be the teacher!
Sing along together if your child learned a Mandarin song — it builds memory and confidence.
Explore a map of China or look up photos of the Great Wall (长城) together. Ask: “What did you learn about this place?”
Small moments of praise and interest from you can make a big differene!
Warm regards,
Ms Jiang
