Remembrance Day 2023
Congratulations to the fabulous team of students who put together and ran this year’s Remembrance Day service at the College.
Remembrance Day is a time when we acknowledge those who died while serving in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. We also acknowledge the families who have lost loved ones and suffered hardships through war.
Commemorating Remembrance Day is a way in which we can ensure that the memories of those who fought and died for our freedom are never forgotten. It is a time to reflect on the horrors of war, the bravery of soldiers and the impact of their sacrifices on our lives. We come together as a community to honour their memory and express our gratitude.
The day also serves as a reminder of the importance of peace and unity. It prompts us to strive for a world where conflicts are resolved through dialogue and understanding rather than violence. It encourages us to work towards a future where the sacrifices of the past are not in vain.
The team of girls from Years 7 to 9 who put this year's service together were fabulous. We'd like to make a special thank you to the following students.
- Thank you to our MC Matilda, Lamar and Rebecca for their poetry readings
- Sienna for reciting the Ode and accompany to the National Anthem
- Pamudi for singing the Anthem
- Yan Yan for playing the Last Post and the Rouse
- Lamar and Flick for laying wreaths on behalf of the College community
- Emma, Tiffany and Amira for setting and raising the flags
- We also appreciate the support of Sarah, Abbey and Lucinda while putting the service together.
Thanks also to Mr Sprigg, Mr Tang, Flick, Ryan C and Yan Yan for setting up and running the live stream so that his event could be shared with the wider College community. It was also great that a number of classes were able to join us live at the ceremony on the day.
Special thanks to one of our Mum’s Jen Paul for crocheting and donating over 100 beautiful Poppies in Red, White and Purple to the College and RSL to support their Remembrance Day appeal.
Thank you to Lamar and Sienna who led the sales of Remembrance Day badges at the College for the RSL fundraising drive.
Thank you also to Ella R. and Abbey M. who attended the Remembrance Day Service at the Doncaster RSL along with myself and Mr Morris and laid a wreath on behalf of the College.
