On Tuesday, the 18th of August, our Kindergarten classes enjoyed a delightful excursion to the local Uniting Banks Lodge Nursing Home in Peakhurst. The purpose of our visit was to connect with the residents and learn more about their past, which tied in perfectly with our ongoing History Unit of Work.

 

Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by the residents. Throughout the visit, our Kindergarten children engaged in meaningful conversations, listening attentively as the residents shared stories from their lives. These exchanges provided a wonderful opportunity for the students to learn about history from a personal perspective, enriching their understanding in a meaningful way.

 

While the residents enjoyed their morning tea, students took part in playing games like 'Memory' and 'Snakes and Ladders,' which sparked laughter and many joyful moments. It was truly heart warming to see the strong bonds forming between the young students and the elderly community members.

 

The excursion was a fantastic success, filled with smiles, laughter, and meaningful interactions. We are deeply grateful to the residents and staff of Uniting Banks Lodge for their warm hospitality and for allowing us to be part of their community. This experience fostered a sense of connection and respect between generations within our wider community.

From District Athletics and the Kindergarten Excursion to SRC Mufti Day, the Backflips Against Bullying incursion, Book Week Parade, and the start of Peer Support, we have packed in a fantastic array of experiences that enrich and inspire our students.\u003c/p>\u003ch2>Supporting Diverse Learners\u003c/h2>\u003cp>At our school, we are committed to providing a range of learning adjustments to support students with additional learning needs. These adjustments encompass Quality Differentiated Teaching Practices as well as Supplementary, Substantial, and Extensive Adjustments. All such adjustments are documented in accordance with the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) for students with a disability.\u003c/p>\u003cp> \u003c/p>\u003cp>One example of a supplementary adjustment recommended by our Learning and Support Team is the use of fidget tools. These tools are discussed collaboratively with teachers and students to enhance focus during learning activities. The fidget tools available within classrooms are provided by the school and have been carefully selected to be quiet and discreet.\u003c/p>\u003cp> \u003c/p>\u003cp>Recently, we have observed an increase in students bringing sensory toys from home for use during class time. As these are personal items that may be important to the student, staff have been advised to request that students keep these toys in their bags during school hours.
