Principal's message

It’s been a wonderfully busy few weeks here at Peakhurst Public School, filled with exciting opportunities for our students to dive into learning and embrace our school community. I was delighted to join our Stage 3 students on their camp at The Great Aussie Bush Camp and was truly impressed by so many who bravely faced their fear of heights with courage and enthusiasm. From District Athletics and the Kindergarten Excursion to SRC Mufti Day, the Backflips Against Bullying incursion, Book Week Parade, and the start of Peer Support, we have packed in a fantastic array of experiences that enrich and inspire our students.

Supporting Diverse Learners

At our school, we are committed to providing a range of learning adjustments to support students with additional learning needs. These adjustments encompass Quality Differentiated Teaching Practices as well as Supplementary, Substantial, and Extensive Adjustments. All such adjustments are documented in accordance with the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) for students with a disability.

One example of a supplementary adjustment recommended by our Learning and Support Team is the use of fidget tools. These tools are discussed collaboratively with teachers and students to enhance focus during learning activities. The fidget tools available within classrooms are provided by the school and have been carefully selected to be quiet and discreet.

Recently, we have observed an increase in students bringing sensory toys from home for use during class time. As these are personal items that may be important to the student, staff have been advised to request that students keep these toys in their bags during school hours. To ensure appropriate support, parents and carers of students who request fidget tools for learning will receive a letter inviting them to a meeting to initiate the Learning and Support process.

We appreciate your understanding as we continue to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.

Banned Items

It has come to the school’s attention that some students have recently purchased items primarily designed for cutting. While these items may appear appealing due to their compact size and suitability for pencil cases, one side of these tools is not permitted on school grounds for safety reasons.

We kindly ask families to support us by ensuring that such items remain at home and are not brought to school. Should these items be found on school premises, they will be confiscated by staff, and parents or carers will be contacted to arrange collection.

SASS Appreciation Week - 31/8 to 4/9

SASS Appreciation Week is dedicated to acknowledging the essential work of non-teaching staff in schools, including administrative staff, general assistants, and school learning and support officers. The week provides an opportunity for school communities to express gratitude for the behind-the-scenes efforts that ensure schools run smoothly, support teachers, and enhance student learning.
