It was great to see all the boys running out onto the fields over the weekend. There is a special atmosphere during the winter season, with the College really coming alive. The excitement, passion and comradery are palpable. It’s great to have winter sport back again.
It is important that all families use the Parent Orbit App for sport notifications. Through the app, you will have access to all the most up-to-date information, notifications for cancellation of games and training.
Each week, on either Wednesday or Thursday, an updated draw will be sent out. This is the draw that families should base weekend games on. The season draw is a draft only and it is intended to give families an idea of what is coming in the season, to help them plan. However, each week there are often subtle changes made to the draws. It is important that families and boys are aware of these changes.
The sign-up sheet for the Junior School Athletics Carnival went up on Monday. It was amazing to see a number of boys sign up on Monday and Tuesday. The forms will be available outside my office until the end of the week. I look forward to seeing many more names appear on the forms at week’s end.
At the end of Term 1, a small contingent of Junior School students attended the IPSHA Rugby League Trials. The trials are one of the largest IPSHA have, with over 120 boys trialling for no more than 20 spots. With many students from around NSW coming to trial, it can be a very challenging day, full of talented players. Congratulations to Samuel (6 Black) for his selection into the CIS trials. I know the community will join me in wishing him well for the next phase of the Rugby League representative pathway.
A reminder for those boys in the Junior School that missed out on Junior School Supporters’ Day, that the Year 7 Supporters’ duty is this Saturday. Those that nominated to attend this day are expected to attend the afternoon session, supporting the First XV Rugby starting at 3:00 PM. Those that can make the 10:00 AM First XI Football session are welcome to do so, however Junior School Co-Curricular commitments must come first. The Year 8 Supporters’ Day will be held next Saturday, 16 May.
There are still a number of boys that are yet to nominate their make-up day after missing the Junior School Supporter’s Day. I would encourage these boys to make a choice quickly and email me their chosen day of attendance.
Unfortunately, our debaters were unable to get their first round up and running with both MLC School and Trinity Grammar asking for an adjournment of Round 1. We look forward to hearing of their experiences in Round 2 and hopefully we can make up debates for Round 1 a little later in the year.
Chess has also seen Round 1 completed. There were some great results with the SPC boys winning a number of close games. Congratulations on a strong start to your season!
Good luck to all those competing in the second round of winter sport. Train hard, play hard and support your mates.
