Together as One Community
Last Friday’s combined school assembly was a powerful reminder of the strength and unity of our community. Despite Year 9 being away on camp and Year 11 immersed in their assessment block, students and staff gathered as we do every second week—connected by a shared sense of purpose and belonging.
A highlight of the assembly was the presentation of the Year 12 Semester 1 Academic Commendation Awards. These awards recognise not only outstanding academic achievement, but also the consistency, discipline and resilience required to perform at a high level over time. Students were acknowledged for their commitment to learning, and their determination to pursue excellence across a demanding academic program. These achievements set a strong example for younger students, reinforcing the value of persistence and personal responsibility in striving for success.
We were also privileged to hear reflections from the recent New Zealand Rugby Tour, shared by Alexander R and Alex S. Their insights captured far more than the results on the field. They spoke of the camaraderie built through shared challenges, the pride in representing the school, and the importance of supporting one another both in competition and beyond. The accompanying video brought these experiences to life, showcasing moments of teamwork, resilience and genuine connection that will remain with the students long after the tour.
Another significant moment was the announcement of our final Lenten Appeal total. The generosity of our community was evident in the substantial amount raised, which will go directly to our charity partners to support those most in need. This effort reflects our ongoing commitment to service and social justice, and the understanding that even small contributions, when combined, can have a meaningful impact.
The assembly concluded with an address from Dr Lavorato, who reflected on the importance of keeping students at the heart of all we do. Drawing on her extensive and successful career in education, she shared insights into how this focus shapes positive learning environments, strengthens relationships, and ultimately supports student growth and wellbeing.
Even with some of our year groups absent, the assembly captured what it means to come together—as a school grounded in achievement, connection, and care for others.
