Parents and Friends

Dr Lavorato’s legacy at SPC is shaping up to be something far deeper than a list of initiatives or achievements, it’s a cultural imprint that will be felt long after her final day.

With the emotional news last week of her departure at the end of the year, it gives us a moment to properly reflect on the past six years and the mark she has left on the College. When she first arrived at St Patrick’s, an all-boys school steeped in tradition and prestige, there was, understandably, some curiosity and quiet chatter about a woman stepping into the role of Principal. That conversation didn’t last long. It quickly gave way to respect, as the community came to know Dr Lavorato not just as a leader, but as a deeply committed steward of the College.

Her passion for SPC has never been in question. It’s been visible in the countless hours she pours into the role, well beyond any standard working week and in her consistent presence at the moments that matter. Many of us still remember those early Black and Green Shield days, her energy on the sidelines against Trinity Grammar, fully invested in the boys and the spirit of the school. Those moments weren’t symbolic; they set the tone.

Because culture is always led from the top, what Dr Lavorato has brought to SPC is a culture grounded in honesty, respect, and authenticity, all anchored firmly in the Catholic identity of the College. Her Term 1 Parent Forum presentation gave real insight into this and how her personal faith is not separate from her leadership, but central to it. That clarity of purpose has shaped how our sons are guided, challenged, and supported each day.

Academically, her impact has been equally significant. Her data-informed approach to teaching and learning has driven measurable improvement, but more importantly, it has fostered a mindset of growth and accountability. As parents/carers, we’ve seen the results, not just in numbers, but in the confidence and capability of our sons.

What often goes unseen, however, is the depth of her advocacy for the school. Last week, I had the opportunity to witness Dr Lavorato in full flight at a meeting with the Independent Schools Association and Mr Jason Yat-sen Li MP, Member for Strathfield. Speaking passionately about SPC and its students, she navigated complex issues like transport, bus services, assisted learning support, access to facilities, and the broader challenges facing independent schools with authority and precision. It was a powerful reminder of just how much she carries on behalf of this community, and how tirelessly she works behind the scenes.

Her influence has also extended strongly into co-curricular life, particularly in sport. Coming from a sporting background, I’ve been excited to see the intentional changes she’s championed by appointing a Director of Athletic Development, expanding access to gym facilities, and investing in specialist coaching across Rugby and Football. Under the guidance of coaching heads like Mr Tatola and Mr Falzon, there is a clear and growing ambition: to excel not only in the classroom, but on the field as well. Importantly, this isn’t about elite performance alone, it’s about giving every boy the opportunity to discover and develop his strengths.

That, perhaps, is the essence of Dr Lavorato’s legacy. She has not simply maintained the traditions of SPC, she has strengthened them, while also preparing the school for what comes next. She has built a culture where faith, learning, wellbeing, and opportunity are not competing priorities, but interconnected pillars.

With three terms still ahead, there is a sense of anticipation about what more is to come. If the past six years are any indication, Dr Lavorato will ensure she finishes as she has led, purposefully, energetically, and with the best interests of every boy at heart.

Saturday 9 May - SPC Saturday Barbeque and Year 7 Supporters’ Day

On a separate note, our Year 7 Barbeque this Saturday is shaping up to be a fantastic day for the community. We’re praying for more sunshine as the boys take to the fields for their winter sport fixtures.

We’ll be running barbeques at both Powell Pavillion and Breen Oval and are once again calling on volunteers to lend a hand. Even an hour of your time makes a big difference and helps share the load across the community. It’s always a great atmosphere, especially with Antoinette’s ’80s playlist bringing the energy to the Powell Pavillion.

Please register your availability via the link below, your support is genuinely appreciated.
