A Message from Ruth

This week, Year 2-5 students participated in a workshop called “Emotions Matters”. They explored topics including how to recognise emotions, how different emotions make us feel, why we sometimes ‘lose control’ and how we can better manage our emotions.  These topics helped to reinforce the regulation language /skills that are taught in the classes here at Uraidla Primary. The Zones of Regulation and Ready to Learn plans support regulated bodies so learning can occur, and remind students they have a toolbox of strategies to use if they aren’t feeling ready to learn.

Feedback from a few students was the hand model of our brain and how we can ‘flip our lid' when we have lost control. They enjoyed learning about ways to get our thinking in charge, as well as the downstairs brain and the upstairs brain.

If you want to learn more about this model, check out Dr Dan Siegel’s hand model of the brain on YouTube.

Have a good week!

Ruth (Pastoral Care Worker Monday and Tuesday)

Thank you to Team Earth, who donated $205.50 to the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Australia to help marine animals. Thanks also to everyone who purchased items at their stall which allowed them to make such a generous donation. Go Team Earth!!

Monty the Monstar Colour Run - The Details

The Colour Run event will start at 2:30pm, next Friday 29 May, on the school oval (weather dependent).Pare nts and loved ones are welcome to watch, and you may want to bring spare clothes or a towel for your car as kids get mucky!

All kids can participate in the run and we’d love it if all kids create a profile, so they get their own sunnies and headband. To create a profile, go to myprofilepage.com.au and follow the instructions.

If kids raise funds that’s even better- just raising $10 means kids can choose a prize*. Please share the fundraising link with family and friends. Fundraising is open until 1 June.

The more money raised, the more teachers get slimed! All students who raise over $25 go into a draw to win a Razon Scooter!

All funds raised are going towards new nature play pods for our playground.

What to wear:

Kids who are happy to get colour on them need to wear a white or very pale t- shirt (as plain as possible)

The white T-shirt and pants should be ones you don’t treasure, as the colour may not fully come off.

Any kids who don’t want to be covered in the colour can run around the colour stations and must wear a bright coloured top (examples below). It can have a pattern, but it needs to be a bold/bright colour so they aren’t confused with kids who want to get covered in colour.

If you have any specific questions about the event, you can email the Parents and Friends at uraidlapandf@gmail.com and we will do our best to get back to you.

*A brochure with the prizes has gone out to kids, and they will see the prizes when they create a profile. A percentage of funds raised goes to the cost of the event and prizes.

Uraidla Primary Facebook Group

If you haven’t already heard about it, there is a Facebook group for UPS families, and we welcome everyone to join (parents/grandparents/carers all welcome). Look for “Uraidla Primary School Families” and answer the 3 simple questions on your connection to the school. This group is a friendly way to find the answers for those questions you may have (e.g. when your child tells you at the last minute its casual day tomorrow, and you can’t remember hearing about it from school!), to get reminders on events coming up, find your lost property!, or a way to connect with other families.

It is not run by the school but is supported by the UPS Governing Council, and parent admin (Jodi Braley) will post information regularly. It is designed to be a group with input from all – so contribute in any way you want to. If you do have a question that you don’t want to post yourself, feel free to forward to Jodi (either by facebook message, email jodi.braley@hotmail.com, or in person at school), who is more than happy to help.

Enrolment in Reception

If you have a child turning 5 in the next 12 months, they should have already enrolled or registered their interest to start school.  Children either start school at the start of the year or in July, depending on their age.

Our school has now reached capacity, which means that we give priority enrolment to children in our catchment area. Please note that younger siblings of existing students are guaranteed enrolment.

If you are speaking to other families about enrolling in school, they can find their local school through the Find My School website: Find a school zone or preschool catchment area (education.sa.gov.au)

Enrolments for mid-2026 are now overdue, and we hope to have enrolments for the start of 2027 intake finalised by July. Please contact the front office for a registration of interest form today!

If you are still unsure or interested in booking a school tour, please contact the office on 8390 3209.
