Acting Principal's Message

We have made it to halfway of term two already! How has the time been flying by so fast?
We have a few things to note this week. Wednesday will be a student free day. The staff are headed to Warrnambool to visit Merri River to look at how they have continued to implement the School Wide Positive Behaviour approach and Warrnambool East primary school to review how the Nurture International program can be implemented as a whole school approach. There will be no staff onsite on Wednesday 27th. This is also deliberate timing as the building team will be removing some asbestos from our renovation site. Therefore, we are not allowed to have any staff or students onsite. Upon occasion some students have arrived at school on these days by accident. Please put a reminder for yourself this Wednesday as there will only be crucial building team and hygienists onsite, no staff to assist students.
As some of you may be aware due to informing the prep-2 class on Thursday, we are also welcoming back Mr. Barker after some time on leave to welcome the birth of his second child. Mr. Barker will return Tuesday 26th May and will step back into the classroom, teaching prep-2 Tuesday to Friday. Mr. Barker will resume teaching on Friday 29th, with some days this week to reorientate and familairise with student learning plans etc Tuesday-Thursday. The students and staff are excited to see him return. Mrs Eales will continue to teach prep-2 on Mondays for the remainder of the term, except for her period of long service leave after the June long weekend.
We celebrated 'Do it for Dolly Day' a couple of weeks ago where students wore blue in support of this event. We also have our school captains representing our school next week at the Reconciliation week event ran by the local council.
Staff have been working hard on some new learning after hours. This learning is called Behaviour Assessments and Supports in Schools (BASIS) and is growing our understanding of what can trigger behaviours, effective intervention and planning for success through Prevent, Teach, Reinforce strategies. We have been lucky to link in with the Senior Regional Behaviour Analyst to assist us in our learning.
I will be heading down to Melbourne to the Victorian State School Principals Conference on Wednesday afternoon. This is always a great time to link George street in with our network of schools and bring back new learning for our staff cohort to better support our students. Should you need anything in my absence, please make contact with Ms. Watson from grade 3/4/5.
Have a great week!
