Foundation (Prep)

English

This fortnight we have introduced the letters 't' and 'a' and continue to revise 'm' and 's'. We met two new characters to help us remember the sounds. Tommy Tiger makes the /t/ sound and Andy Ant makes the /a/ sound.

The students have learnt that each letter has a name and a sound. We have been identifying words that begin with these sounds and focusing on how to write the letters correctly.

Our Storybooks this fortnight were The Zebra Who Ran Too Fast by Jenni Desmond and The River by Sally Morgan and Johnny Warrkatja Malibirr. We enjoyed making zebras and practised using our oral comprehension skills by talking about different parts of the story.

Maths

In Maths, we continue to practise counting, writing numerals and discussing counting strategies. We have also been collecting information and making picture graphs. The students have been introduced to new vocabulary to discuss what the graphs are telling us. For example, most/least popular, more/less than, equal, etc.

Inquiry

This fortnight, we discussed how people can impact the environment around them. Students came up with ideas about how we can look after our world and what things are harmful. The children drew images and then presented to their classmates to explain their thinking. This task encouraged students to work with someone they hadn't worked with before and it was a pleasure to see everyone working so well together.

Buddies

During our buddy session, students were encouraged to complete a getting to know you activity. Now that the students have worked together a few times and the Prep students are more relaxed in the company of the senior students, we asked them to create a poster highlighting things they each liked and something that they shared in common. Building on our recent circus skills incursion and our preparation for the 'Seussical the Musical' production, we decided to go with a circus theme.

Have a great weekend everyone!
