Every Day at School Counts

Although the end of the school year is approaching (and for many it's far quicker than we are prepared for!), there is still plenty of important learning and fun ahead. While absences are sometimes unavoidable, regular attendance helps students make the most of every opportunity school has to offer. The infographic below shows how small amounts of missed time can accumulate throughout a student's school years. Every day really does count when it comes to learning and developing healthy learning habits, friendships and feeling connected to school.

Digital Wellbeing Parent Session

As the conversation around children’s digital device use continues to grow, we invite parents of upper primary students to join us at the GSPV Church for our Digital Wellbeing Parent Session on Tuesday 10 November at 6:30pm.

To help us plan for the evening, please complete the following form to register your interest:

With increasing community awareness of screen-time impacts and recent changes to social media regulations and school policies, many families are navigating new challenges in supporting healthy digital habits. Research suggests that excessive screen use can affect young people’s developing brains, bodies and mental wellbeing, making it more important than ever to equip children with the skills and strategies needed to thrive in a digital world.

This parent session will explore current digital wellbeing trends, encourage open conversations about screen-time concerns, and provide practical strategies that families can use at home. Parents will also gain insights into current Australian recommendations and learn ways to support their children in developing positive and balanced relationships with technology.

We look forward to partnering with our families in this important area of student wellbeing.

Wait Mate

"Your child is getting a smartphone... their classmates are deciding when."

Wait Mate is a movement of Australian families waiting before giving in to their children having smartphones, so kids can be kids for longer. Parents of Good Shepherd Lutheran School have already been signing up - Join the movement.

Why wait? Smartphones are built to hold attention. Kids find that hard to resist, impacting on things like short term memory, sleep disruption, physical health and sedentary behaviour, relationships, and emotional regulation. Later is safer than sooner.

Why together? Waiting alone is hard. Waiting togther is easier. When many families choose to wait together, no child feels left out.

Following on from our upper primary Digital Wellbeing Parent Session (perfect timing!), there are upcoming parent information sessions in Weeks 5 & 6 regarding the Wait Mate initiative. Please see the attached flyer for locations, dates and times.

Children's Week 2026

Gallery Image

This week GSPV celebrated Children's Week, a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together and celebrate the voices, cultures, languages, and identities of all children. Throughout the week, students participated in engaging classroom and lunchtime activities centred around this year's theme, "Children have the right to use their own language, celebrate their culture and practise their religion."

Experiences involving stories, crafts, conversations, and cultural learning opportunities encouraged students to reflect on the importance of inclusion, respect, and belonging while recognising the rich diversity that strengthens our school community. It was fabulous to see students engaging with the activities and embracing the opportunity to learn about and appreciate one another.

We thank all students and staff for embracing the spirit of Children's Week and helping make it such a positive celebration.

From the Child Safe Team,
