Feast of the Assumption Mass

Last week, our College celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of Mary – a special opportunity to reflect on Mary’s example of faith, humility and generous service, qualities that sit at the heart of our Marist tradition.

At the end of that celebration, we announced a number of significant student leadership roles for 2027. While it was wonderful to recognise those appointed, perhaps even more impressive was the response of their peers. The genuine congratulations, handshakes, smiles and words of encouragement reflected the strength of relationships within our community.

It takes generosity to celebrate the success of others, particularly when many capable students have also put themselves forward. In this way, our students demonstrated an important form of leadership themselves, supporting one another and taking genuine joy in the achievements of their peers. This truly reflects our Marist virtues of humility and modesty, and is a credit to our students.

I was truly so impressed by the courage of the students to put themselves forward and more so, the response as they authentically and generously congratulated their peers. Additionally, the response from the whole student body was heart-wearing to experience. Their standing ovation, clapping and smiles were a genuine reflection of the respect they have for the students who will lead the class of 2027.

Congratulations to those who have accepted leadership responsibilities, and thank you to all students who participated in the process and supported one another so positively. It is wonderful to be in a community where young people have the courage to lead, the humility to serve, and the modesty to celebrate the gifts of others.
