Wellbeing and Engagement

At Carlton Gardens Primary School, student wellbeing continues to be at the heart of everything we do. We know that when students feel safe, connected, respected, and included, they are better able to learn, grow, and thrive.

This term, our Social and Emotional Learning program is focusing on the theme of Respect. Through the Respectful Relationships curriculum and the Zones of Regulation, students across all year levels will explore what it means to respect themselves, others, and the diverse communities they are part of. Students will build their understanding of personal and cultural strengths, practise listening and sharing, and learn how respect is demonstrated through kindness, bravery, empathy, and everyday actions.

Important events throughout the term, including ANZAC Day, National Sorry Day, National Reconciliation Week, and Refugee Week, provide meaningful opportunities for students to reflect on respect for history, culture, identity, and diversity. These experiences help students recognise the impact of their words and actions, value differences, and contribute positively to safe and inclusive environments.

By linking this learning to our school value of Respect, we encourage all students to celebrate strengths, honour diversity, and care for one another in the way they learn, play, and grow together.

We are also incredibly excited to be continuing our partnership with Carlton Football Club through their Carlton Respects initiative. This partnership will provide valuable opportunities to further strengthen conversations around respect, inclusion, positive relationships, and belonging within our school community. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.

The Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) will also take place this term for students in Years 4–6. The AtoSS is a voluntary survey offered annually by the Department of Education and provides students with an opportunity to share their thoughts and experiences about school, learning, relationships, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, and life in general.

Breakfast Club is back on Fridays this term! Breakfast Club provides students with a positive and welcoming start to the school day, helping to build connection, routine, and readiness for learning. Sharing breakfast together also creates opportunities for students to strengthen friendships, develop social skills, and feel a sense of belonging within the school community. Keep an eye out on Compass for more details.

As always, if you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child’s teacher or a member of the leadership team. Working in partnership with families is an important part of ensuring every child feels safe, supported, and successful at school.
