From Barcelona to St Patrick's: A Global Blessing
We are taking a brief detour from our usual school news this week to share an extraordinary milestone from the wider Catholic community. Just last week, Pope Leo XIV travelled to Barcelona, Spain, to lead a historic solemn Mass and officially bless the newly completed Tower of Jesus Christ at the world-famous Basílica de la Sagrada Família.
Mr Hyatt has been fortunate enough to visit this basilica twice, and each time he has come away completely awestruck by its soaring architecture and the intricate, hidden details carved into every stone.
This magnificent church has a fascinating history, having been under construction for 144 years since work first began all the way back in 1882. It was designed by the deeply devout architect Antoni Gaudí, who famously avoided straight lines because they do not exist in nature, choosing instead to model the interior columns after branching trees to create a spectacular indoor stone forest flooded with vibrant stained-glass light. The newly blessed Tower of Jesus Christ stands at a staggering 172.5 metres tall—crowned with a massive, glowing four-armed cross—which now officially makes the Sagrada Família the tallest church building in the world. During the historic blessing, the Pope reminded the world that this ongoing masterpiece is a beautiful symbol of our own lives and faith, showing us that we are all a work in progress, beautifully built day by day and piece by piece.
To truly understand the scale and beauty of this architectural wonder, we encourage you to explore the link below. It provides a magnificent virtual tour of both the interior and exterior of the basilica, allowing you and your family to step inside the stunning stone forest and see firsthand just how amazing this building is.
Prayer
Loving God,
We thank you for the beauty of creation
and the incredible gifts you give to humanity.
We praise you for inspiring architects,
artists, and builders throughout history
to create magnificent places of worship,
like the Sagrada Família,
that point our hearts directly toward heaven.
We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Communion
We extend our warmest congratulations to Angus, Freddie, and Jack, who received the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the very first time during our beautiful school mass last Friday.
This was a significant milestone in the spiritual journeys of these three students, and it was wonderful to gather as a faith community to share the joy of the occasion with them and their families. The boys are commended for the reverent and respectful manner in which they prepared for and received this special Sacrament.
Calling for Altar Servers
It was great to see we had five students receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time recently. Did you know that once a child can receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion they can take part in altar serving at both of our school and parish Masses?
Father Elino is looking out for any of our students who would like to become an altar server. Altar Servers must be Catholic and have a basic understanding of the mystery of Jesus present in the Eucharist and of the importance of prayerful reverence in their role as Altar servers.
Servers will be shown how to serve commencing in the near future during lunchtime.
If you have any questions regarding altar serving, don't hesitate to get in touch with Mr Hyatt.
