Foundation

Hello Families,

We hope you had a restful and enjoyable holidays and are as excited about school being back as the children were this week! We've had a wonderful week getting back into learning and having fun with friends. A highlight this week was a visit from our 5/6 buddies who helped us with writing our design evaluation for our toy chairs. In return, the Foundation students showed their buddies around Discovery and enjoyed playing with slime, building blocks and making food in our kitchen. Have a great weekend and we'll see you in Week 2. 

Year 1

Welcome to Term 3!

I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break.

On the last day of Term 2, our class won the Golden Boot Award! This means our class had the highest number of students who walked or rode their bike to school throughout the month. As a reward, we will be enjoying a piza lunch. The date is yet to be confirmed, and families will be notified once it has been arranged.

We have a fun-filled term ahead with an exciting new Inquiry unit, our upcoming Art Show, and many other wonderful learning experiences. It has been so lovely to see all of the children's joyful faces back at school, ready for another fantastic term of learning.

Year 2

Hello Families,

Wecome to the new Term.  Chilly blustery weather did not dampen our enthusiasm for learning! We wrote about and shared our holiday stories with each other. Terri came to lead the school Welcoming ceremony, thank you. And we chose a new SRT representative to replace Jamiee. We guessed how old Davide is, he looks very youthful and some guessed his age at 100,000,000!

We look forward to chatting with families for the Parent teacher evening and in a few weeks we have a yearly Art show. Thank you families for your tremendous support.

Year 3/4

Each Friday our students in 3/4 are involved in a numeracy initiative as part of the MAP program. It's called FFF - Fun & Fluency Friday! Our Maths leader, Marty, spends an hour with us, collaboratively teaching alongside Tess, Lauren and Rebecca the components of number and place value through games and small group activities. The focus of the MAP (Maths Acceleration Program) is on students acquiring key mathematical concepts and then, through practice, becoming more fluent in both their understanding and their responses. 

Students were introduced to our Term 3 text Wongutha Tales. Weexplored the chapter How the crows became black, looking at themes of inclusivity, belonging and acceptance. We searched for examples of literacy devices used throughout, such as personification, and discussed how when the crows are given human emotions and motivations, it allows us toreflect on our own behaviors and empathise with their (the crows) feelings.

Our scientists have been finalising their Lava lamp creations in time for our upcoming Art show. It has been great to witness the team work, collaboration and problem solving between students throughout their Inquiry .

Year 5/6J

Welcome back to the new term families! It is going to be another exciting and jam packed term full of great activities and experiences! This week we began developing our knowledge and understanding of NAIDOC Week, its purpose and significance for us to continue to celebrate and recognise. Students also got the chance to begin designing their own Indigenous piece or artwork, finding a piece of art as inspiration to create their own adaptation. They are coming along extremely well, and we are super excited to display them on Art Show night!

Year 5/6M

Hello Parents and Guardians, welcome to another term at Sacred Heart!

I hope that everyone enjoyed a wonderful break. I am excited to kick off another fantastic term with our wonderful year 5/6 students, a term of learning, growth and discovery!

It has been wonderful to see the students return with bright smiles and enthusiasm. 

In these photos, we played Battleships. It's a really fun game but when you're playing, you're actually learning maths. It is connected to maths through location and co-ordinates. We are learning about the X and Y axis and how the X axis is the horizontal line and the Y axis is the vertical line. 

We also learned about the cartesian plane and that there are negative and positive numbers. The X axis goes first. The grid is in 4 quadrants.

We drew the cartesian plane on some grid paper and we plotted our dot which were the battleships. We took turns to guess the position and say the co oridinate to destroy the other players battleship.
