It is with great pleasure that I warmly welcome back our students and families to the final term of 2024. When our students returned to school following the holidays, they were focused and re-charged, ready for the busy term ahead.
Term 4 is always a special time of the school year, as it is when we reflect on and celebrate the achievements of our students and prepare to farewell our graduating class. This is always a bittersweet time, as we feel immense pride of the young people we have helped shape, combined with a sadness as we prepare to say farewell to our Year 12 students as they embark on their own journey into the world.
Week 2 saw the commencement of our Term 4 theme of celebration of student achievement with the opening of the Arts and Technology Exhibition, which took place in the Food and Technology Centre. The display of talent, skill and creativity of our students was extraordinary. The array of projects, pieces and student artwork was immense, showcasing artistic flair and technical brilliance from Art, Media, Visual Communications, Photography, Food Technology, Product Design, Systems Engineering, Digital Technology and the Performing Arts. The energy in the exhibition was electric, filled with excited students, parents and staff. The event was superb and is one of the highlights of my career in education thus far.
The Year 12 Final Assembly was held last Monday and it allowed us to share the enormous impact that this year’s graduating class have had on our school; the lessons we have learnt from them and those we wish to impart. The Year 12 Exams commence this week, starting with the English/EAL exam on Tuesday. It has been heartening to see the focus and determination demonstrated by the students In preparing for the exams and they will no doubt be rewarded at the end for the effort they have put in.
The new state-of-the-art Science and Technology Wing and new Canteen is almost complete and we will be setting up each learning space in mid-December, ready for the new school year. The new Canteen will be open and fully operational by the 9th of December; however we will have no Canteen facilities in the week prior, from Monday 2nd to Thursday 6th December. The demolition of part of the old B Block Technology building will begin in January and landscaping of the grounds will continue throughout Term 1. It will be wonderful to have all of the new facilities and learning spaces for our students to learn within.
We are busily preparing for 2025 and families of students moving into Years 9 -12 will shortly be receiving the confirmed course of their child’s chosen subjects and the associated costs. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
I look forward to seeing so many of our parents throughout this term at various events, culminating in the Awards Evening on the 18th of December at The Centre, Ivanhoe.
Kind regards,
Katie Watmough
