Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC)
The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) is an annual event that takes place in August and students of all abilities are invited to participate. It is comprised of 30 questions of increasing difficulty and they are designed to force students to apply their skills beyond what they would experience in a regular Mathematics class.
This year, 19 students took on the challenge and achieved some impressive results. Congratulations to all who participated, especially Sienna Vrantsis, Iniya Inbakaran, Ndell Ndour, Shatakshi Shivhare, Mandira Perera for achieving a Certificate of Distinction. Special congratulations also go to Andy Nguyen and Aqeel Hussain for achieving a High Distinction, receiving scores in the top 1% for their year level (and falling agonisingly short of winning a prize) and to Baxter Morris for the incredibly rare feat of scoring in the top 0.03% and receiving a gift voucher from the Australian Mathematics Trust.
It is competitions like these that broaden ones mathematical skills and enhance their appreciation of it. I would encourage and welcome all interested students to direct all enquiries to the Mathematics team about competitions and Olympiads that will run throughout 2025.
Kind regards
