Term 1
SWPBS Blue Award
We are proud to share that Concord School has officially achieved the Blue Award for School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) from the Department of Education. This recognition reflects the commitment of our staff, students, and the broader community to create a positive, respectful, and supportive learning environment for everyone.
SWPBS focuses on explicitly teaching and reinforcing positive behaviours, building strong relationships, and ensuring that every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.
There are so many wonderful things happening across the school. From students demonstrating our school values in the classroom and yard, to staff celebrating positive choices and achievements, to parents and carers supporting learning at home, our whole community plays an important role in making our school such a positive place to learn and grow.
This achievement belongs to all of us.
Curriculum Day: Strengthening Positive Behaviour Supports Through Evidence-Based Practices
During our recent Curriculum Day, we welcomed Dan Petro, the director of Behavioural Resources Australia, to extend our implementation of our SWPBS framework. Dan shared evidence-based practices that can be immediately implemented in the classroom. The day focused on numerous practical application examples in the areas of:
- The art of giving directions.
- Using frameworks vs programs.
- How reinforcement actually works.
- Developing strong relationship practices.
- Designing and using practical procedures.
- Simple techniques for increasing professional capacity.
- Initiating and maintaining strong behavioural frameworks.
