Recently three Overnewton students represented their associations at the Under 15 State Netball Titles, held at the State Netball Centre.
Congratulations to Grace C (Elmer), Lucy S (Jika) and Ava G (Jika) on their selection and performances at the championships. In order to be selected for their respective teams, the girls had to go through multiple trials, where over 100 athletes were narrowed down to a final squad of 12.
Across the Titles, Grace, Lucy and Ava competed in 17 rounds of netball, showcasing a high standard of competition and commitment from all players involved. In an exciting turn of events, our students found themselves facing each other in the semi-final, with Grace and her Elmer team taking on Lucy and Ava’s Jika. Which interestingly, is also coached by Jenna Astwood, Overnewton’s First Team coach! The match proved to be an exciting one and was widely regarded as one of the best games played in the Under 15 tournament. After a closely contested battle, Elmer came away with the win by just one goal. Following the victory, Grace and her team progressed to the preliminary final, where they were narrowly defeated by the overall champions.
At the Titles, Netball Victoria were conducting Talent Identification which assess participants to be considered to trial for 2027 Talent Academy and State team pathways. Excitingly, Lucy was identified as an athlete to participate in these trials which will occur later in the year!
Grace, Lucy and Ava are now heading into a busy domestic and representative schedule where they will again compete against each other at the Association Championships in May. We wish them all the best for the upcoming season and look forward to watching them in the ACS Winter program.

Congratulations to Emma S (Year 10) who achieved an outstanding result at the Head of the Schoolgirls Regatta over the weekend, claiming 1st place in the Year 10 Single Scull.
Emma delivered a series of strong performances across the regatta, progressing confidently through each round. After comfortably winning her heat on Friday, she continued her impressive form by winning her quarter-final on Saturday and semi-final on Sunday morning, before going on to secure first place in the A Final.
This result represents a fantastic achievement for Emma. At the same event last year, she narrowly missed the A Final before winning the B Final to finish fifth overall, making this year’s victory a testament to her hard work and development.
Emma will now travel to Tasmania next week to compete at the Australian National Rowing Championships, where she will race in the U17 Single Scull, as well as in a composite U17 Double Scull, and an U17 Quad Scull.
We congratulate Emma on this outstanding achievement and wish her the very best as she competes at the national level.

The Melbourne Victory Performance Program (MVPP) commended on Thursday morning, with students enjoying an engaging morning of Football. It was great to see our athletes demonstrating enthusiasm, commitment, and a strong willingness to learn.
Students were introduced to the program earlier this term and are now completing a series of sessions that are run by specialistcoaches from the Victory Academy program. The coaching sessions allow students to focus on key techniques while also gaining valuable insights from experienced instructors.
Students will continue to take part in the MVPP program throughout the year, where we look forward to seeing their continued development as the program progresses.
