Head of Sport Report

It has been great to see our teams giving their all each Saturday in the ISA competition. The effort, energy, and school spirit on display has been very impressive. I commend all players and coaches for their commitment so far this season. Well done!

Unfortunately, it was disappointing to see a number of students absent from the recent ISA Cross Country Carnival. As a result, our overall team performance was impacted. These events not only contribute to team success but also provide valuable experiences that build resilience and school pride.

Students who involve themselves fully in the life of the school - through sport, academics, the arts, and other opportunities - tend to create stronger memories and often achieve better overall results. I encourage everyone to keep showing up, giving their best, and supporting their BMGS teams throughout the season.

ISA Cross Country

Congratulations to the following students who have qualified for the NSWCIS Cross Country carnival.

These students will be competing at the Equestrian Centre on 12th June. We wish them all the best at this event.

Athletics

Congratulations to all students who have qualified for the BMGS Athletics team. This list will be on the Sports Noticeboard. The carnival will be held on the 16th September which will give team members plenty of time for training in preparation for this event.

Netball Match Reports

Round 5

Juniors Netball vs Redlands

This week was a tough game against Redlands. We had no subs and were missing some of our key players, meaning new positions were trialled with our Goal Keeper, Peri even trying shooter! The game started off fairly evenly and we prevented many Redlands goals but as the girls got more tired unfortunately Redlands won 18-8. Our team agree that it was due to them being a strong team, as well as some dodgy umpiring! Not to worry though, we had some awesome moves in defence and great teamwork in the shooting circle. Good game girls!

Inters Netball vs Redlands

Over the weekend, the team faced a tough match, with a tightly contested first quarter before Redlands pulled ahead for the remainder of the game. Isabella R stepped up impressively, playing out of position and increasing defensive pressure in the circle, making a noticeable impact. Despite the challenging conditions, the girls showed great determination, finishing with a strong fourth quarter that saw them narrow the score difference. The match served as a valuable learning curve, with players working to adapt to unfamiliar strategies to create space and score. There’s plenty to take away from this performance as the team continues to grow and develop.

Seconds Netball: BMGS vs Redlands

What a nail biter!! At Northern Beaches, we had a really great game! We missed a couple of our team mates, with the girls determined to play in whatever position it took to bring our best. They did just that!

The timing of our prelims and breaks were beautifully executed and our passing was strong. Our defensive game all the way down the court continues to be our strength as we were able to turn over quite a lot of ball.

After being 7 down at half time, we managed to claw back and gain a draw! Really impressive fight girls - well done!!

BMGS Firsts v Redlands Firsts

BMGS: 50 | Redlands: 56

What a game! BMGS Firsts took on Redlands Firsts away at Redlands and provided an incredible display of netball skills and agility. Every player was outstanding and played with incredible intensity, but standouts this week were definitely Rose Perisce-Burrell in Wing Attack and Kaia Stubenrauch in Goal Defence. Rose’s agility and ability to find space on court were so impressive and Kaia’s dictate and deny moves made getting into the shooting circle very difficult for the Redlands shooters. Shooters Freya Knussen and Zara Perisce-Burrell took a lot of knocks from Redlands defence, but maintained goal parity and ensured BMGS took the lead for two quarters. Sadly, Redlands took the lead in the final quarter and BMGS couldn’t catch up, but a really solid game was had by all. Well done BMGS Firsts!

Round 4: Inters Netball BMGS v Oxley

We travelled to Bowral for our game against Oxley. It was a hard fought win for the girls and the tightest score that the girls have had this season. Losing Faith very early in the game due to injury meant that players had to step up and play slightly out of position. It was an awesome whole court defensive effort from everyone which brought many opportunities for the attacking line to convert. Oxley came back close to the end but we managed to hold them out winning by 3 goals. Well done girls!

Round 3: Seconds Netball: BMGS vs Barker

A win on home turf! This is how it played out…We bought huge internal fire from the initial whistle, and kept up the intensity throughout the game gradually increasing our lead every quarter. Every player locked in and made sure they delivered on the role on the court.

We were positive, cheered for one another, supported on and off the court, and delivered a great win! We 100% played to win! Congratulations to Gretel and Poppy who were announced as our co-captains for this team.

Round 2: Seconds Netball: BMGS vs Oakhill

BMGS: 30 | Oakhill: 69

This week saw us travel to Oakhill. As always, the bus trip was fun and entertaining - we like to think of it as team bonding! Now onto the great game…The girls did some great short and sharp movements down the court and had really nice discipline with their 3 feet when defending. We adjusted our game throughout to make sure we balanced the court and really looked out for one another to allow for more space. We moved people around to allow for better matchups, and tried out new positions for some.

Oakhill today were a stronger team than us today - however we fought really hard, didn’t lose our nerve, and tried our hardest until the end. Congrats girls!

First Netball: BMGS vs Oakhill

BMGS: 34 | Oakhill: 70

Oakhill are always strong competition, and today at their home ground they were just that. In the first quarter, we really held them to a small margin and they made some panic changes. We were calm and disciplined, and really brought intensity and intent. Although the score looks like a big margin by the end, the game didn’t reflect this. The game was tightly contested, with every single ball a challenge. We adjusted our defence well against their holding shooter and made them really work hard.

What I was proud of was that we held our composure the entire time and didn’t give up. We kept playing our game and delivered on our balanced court. We drove through the ball and we limited our penalties as the game went on.

It was a celebration of “females in sport” round. Oakhill made a lovely speech and gave all female supporters a flower.

Oakhill was tough, however a joy to play. Well done to our fabulous firsts!
