From the

Head of  Senior School

Dear BMGS Senior School Community,

As we move through the second half of Term 2, the Senior School has been a hive of activity, with students and staff engaged across academic, pastoral, and co-curricular domains. It’s been a rewarding month filled with progress, celebration, and connection.

Academic Progress

Our students across Years 7–10 have recently completed key assessment tasks, with teachers now finalising results and preparing Semester Reports. We’re grateful to our dedicated teaching staff for their careful and considered approach to marking and feedback. Students are encouraged to reflect on their progress and continue setting strong goals as we head towards the end of term.

Senior students have also been working through major assessment tasks and engaging in subject-specific programming designed to prepare them for the demands of HSC and post-school pathways. Our teachers continue to collaborate closely to ensure curriculum alignment and consistency across classes.

Student Leadership and Global Engagement

This month, our Student Council had the privilege of meeting with Satara Uthayakumar, the Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations. Satara met with student leaders to hear their perspectives on issues impacting young people in our community, including education, mental health, equity, and climate justice. It was an inspiring session that empowered students to consider how their voices contribute to broader national and global conversations. We are incredibly proud of their thoughtful contributions and the maturity with which they represented our school.

Wellbeing and House Spirit

Wellbeing remains a cornerstone of Senior School life. Our recent Extended Tutor Time allowed tutors to spend meaningful time with students—checking in on their academic and emotional wellbeing and providing guidance where needed. House Meetings also returned with great energy as we prepared for the upcoming Athletics Carnival. These gatherings are a wonderful way to build connection and foster healthy school spirit.

Parent and Community Engagement

Thank you to all the families who joined us for the Year 11 Parent-Teacher Evening. Strong family-school partnerships are central to student success, and we value the opportunity to discuss progress and growth together.

We also welcomed current Year 10 families to our Subject Selection Information Evening, designed to support students as they consider their senior school subjects for 2026. The level of engagement and thoughtful questions from students and parents alike was impressive.

Pathways and Preparation

Year 10 and Year 12 students recently attended the HSC and Careers Expo at Kensington. It was an inspiring and informative day, helping students explore study options, career pathways, and opportunities beyond school. These experiences are an important part of our ongoing careers education program.

Winter Ball and Community Spirit

One of the most anticipated events on the Senior School calendar – the Winter Ball – will be held at the Western Sydney Convention Centre tonight – Friday 6th June. This elegant evening promises to bring our students, staff, and families together to celebrate with style and joy. A special thank you goes to all who have contributed to the planning and preparation, including those supporting our final rehearsals. It is sure to be a night to remember!

Looking Ahead

As we approach the final weeks of term, our focus will shift toward Semester Reports, the Athletics Carnival, and ongoing support for our senior students. We look forward to continuing to partner with you in supporting our young people as they learn, grow, and thrive.

Best regards,

Alicia Michielsen
