Awesome Lawson

Welcome to 2024! We hope you all had a thrilling start to this year, whether you’re a student, staff or parent. A big round of applause to everyone for putting in their best efforts and making this year a great success so far. We’re eagerly looking forward to all the exciting opportunities that students will take part in this year, enjoying the year to the fullest and learning as many new skills as possible to achieve the most out of their time spent at Ballarat High School.

Recently Ballarat High School held its yearly swimming sports carnival where many students got involved and had a blast, representing their house by showing off their house spirit both inside and outside of the pool. Students participated in races, volleyball tournaments and a lot of sunbathing! It was an awesome day and a great success for all houses and their members!

Recently completed also were the house assemblies. Lawson's assembly was a great time for the leaders and teachers involved, the Lawson spirit was talked about and gave our new students a great idea of the amazing house they are in for their time at BHS. In this assembly the House Captains addressed the new house points system; this is a system  where there is a running tally of points for each house. These points can be obtained by good behaviour, the involvement in curricular and extracurricular activities as well as participating in as many school sporting activities as possible!

The current tally of these points is as follows (as of the March 15th, 2024):

  1. Baird (green): 1191
  2. Greenfield (yellow): 1166
  3. Brawn (blue): 1119
  4. Lawson (red): 1004

Although Lawson is 4th, there is a lot of the year ahead of us!

Speaking of ahead of us, the school athletics carnival is around the corner! A great event for all students to attend and involve themselves in! The athletics carnival is on March 20th and is an awesome opportunity to build up the points that we need to ensure a successful year as Lawson!

Did you know that Lawson House is named after Sir Harry Lawson? He was the premier of Victoria from 1918-1924. He is recognised for his contributions to Ballarat High School and his involvement in its development.
