Year 11 Outdoor Ed

On Wednesday 28th February, both Year 11 Outdoor Education classes headed off to Anglesea to participate in a 3-day coastal camp.

The students used the school tents to camp at the Big 4 Caravan Park. Upon arriving, the students completed team building activities on the beach, ocean kayaking, educational walks along the coast and surfing sessions.

Throughout these sessions the students learnt about the characteristics of the coastal and marine biomes, whilst also learning about the factors that affect these biomes such as the geology, climate, position and aspect. The students learnt about the dangers and warning signs of rips at the beach and how to navigate them.

All of the students displayed exemplary behaviour on the camp, showcasing teamwork, respect and giving all of the activities a go. Upon our return to school, the students reflected on their camp experience before learning about the motivations for participating in outdoor experiences. The Anglesea camp provided the students with experiential knowledge of the coastal and marine biomes, whilst also being able to further understand and experience the motivations for completing outdoor experiences and the concept of ‘flow’. Huge thanks to Ashley Baker, Michael Sordello and Jane Douglass for assisting with camp organisation and providing the students with a fantastic experience.
