Leadership 2027

Providing students with the opportunity to apply for and hold leadership positions offers numerous benefits that contribute to their personal and professional growth. 

In essence, offering students the chance to apply for leadership positions, participate in interviews, and lead initiatives provides a holistic learning experience that prepares them for their future careers and life beyond college. It nurtures skills, character traits, and a mindset that are essential for success in various fields. Our Year 11 students are currently working through the process of applying for Prefect and Co-Curricular positions for 2027.

We are exceptionally proud of all our Year 11 students, and we know they will lead with empathy, respect and humility. 

The entire process for selecting each of our school leaders (prefects) is, in my opinion, exhaustive and transparent. 

• Each student from Years 7 to 12 will be invited to vote for House and School Captains.

• Every Year 11 student was encouraged to submit a formal application, together with a Resume to their Head of House.

• Every Year 11 student who applies will be formally interviewed by the Head of House.

• Students short listed by the Head of House to be School Captain or SRC President will be formally interviewed by the Principal and Deputy Principal. 

• The Pastoral Care Committee, consisting of the Principal, Deputy Principal, Head of Middle Years, Head of Year 12, Head of Speirs and Macdonald House, together with Heads of House will meet to make recommendations for successful candidates. 

• The Principal appoints the successful candidates on the recommendation of the committee.

• Unsuccessful candidates are invited to speak to the Head of House to discuss their application and to offer guidance.

The mantle of leadership comes with both excitement and responsibility, and we are confident that our students are more than capable of embracing these roles with enthusiasm and grace. We wish them every success. 

Guest speaker at Assembly 

Harry Mahar from the Class of 2022 spoke at the Senior School Assembly this week about his personal experience with a close friend who suffered from mental health challenges. 

Harry talked openly about the need for our students to reach out, seek help and talk about their emotions and concerns if life is feeling heavy.  In Harry’s words – talk, talk, talk. 

As a young male adult, showing vulnerability and speaking openly about this topic, Harry was a positive example for our student body.
