Mark Alexander - House and SIS Sports Coordinator

Term 1 full of sport and jam-packed with competitions at St John's, which was great to see. The term started off with the whole school involved in the House Aquatics Carnival on February 23 at Doveton Pool. Delphinus House managed to get the win after a successful day of swimming events.

SIS Swimming training has been happening on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons and I congratulate the students for their hard work and dedication. The SIS Swimming Carnival will be at MSAC on April 24 in Term 2 and we wish all the swimmers good luck representing the school.

Training also occurred for a fair few SIS weekly sports this Term with some great results. Thank you very much to the staff that helped train and coach teams and for the students who put in effort for both training and games days. Ms Liu (Senior Girls Basketball), Mr Alexander (Senior Boys Indoor Cricket), Mr O’Loughlin, Mr Boswell and Mr Chungue (Senior Boys Soccer), Mr Boswell (Intermediate Boys Handball) all doing a great job. Special praise for Ms Nguyen and the Intermediate Girls Volleyball team who managed to secure the pennant for the school this year.

Volleyball has been a major sport this year so far as the Inter Homeroom Volleyball competition has begun, with each homeroom battling it out at lunchtimes to make it to the next round. The competition will continue in Term 2 as it heads toward the Grand Final that will see the final two homerooms battle it out on the last day of Term 2 to see who is the best Volleyball homeroom team in 2024.

Another Carnival held in the last week of school was the House Cross Country. This year students signed up to represent their houses and run the 2.2km track on Monday 25 March. Once again Delphinus claimed the win, but this time shared the result with Leonis. Both Houses claimed 174 points and, for the first time ever, two Houses won the House Cross Country competition.

As we get set for another BIG Term of sport in Term 2, students are reminded to sign up for their Athletics carnival events (this sign-up closes Thursday 18 April). Athletics Day is held on Monday 29 April and will be compulsory for all students to attend this fabulous day at Casey Fields.

Weekly sports are also available to participate in, so feel free to get involved and represent the College. Weekly SIS sports on offer are: Junior Girls/Junior Boys Soccer, Junior Boys Volleyball, Junior Girls Netball, Senior Boys/Senior Girls Volleyball, Senior Boys AFL and Intermediate Boys Volleyball. So much to choose from and we look forward to students doing well and training hard.

Have a wonderful Easter break, don’t eat too much chocolate and keep training for those sports.
