Introduction of dry land training

Clayfield Swimming has now included dry land training as part of our program for our swimmers in Development, Silver and Bronze squads. While swimming training mainly takes place in the pool, dry land training plays an important role in developing young athletes.

Our dry land training, coached by Clayfield College Strength & Conditioning Coach Isaac, includes activities such as core work, balance exercises, stretching, coordination drills and bodyweight strength activities. For junior swimmers, the focus is on building strong movement foundations in a fun and age-appropriate way.

These sessions help swimmers improve:

  • Core strength and body position
  • Coordination and balance
  • Flexibility and mobility
  • Starts, turns, and overall efficiency in the water
  • Injury prevention and overall athletic development.

Dry land training also supports physical literacy, encouraging children to run, jump, balance and move confidently, skills that are becoming increasingly important in today’s screen-focused world.

Most importantly, dry land helps junior swimmers develop confidence, resilience and a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity, both in and out of the pool.

Dry land training is held Monday-Thursday afternoons before each swim session.
