Opus 1 Recap

On Wednesday of Week 3, we held our annual Opus 1 concert in the College Assembly Hall, which was a shining success. Students in band, strings and choral ensembles, both Junior and Senior, joined together to showcase the pieces that they have been working hard on throughout Terms 1 and 2. 

The countless hours of rehearsals, private lessons and home practices did not go to waste. Pieces were polished, rounded out and performed with an amazing sense of professionalism. 

Learning an instrument and retaining these skills can be quite a difficult task and joining an ensemble where you may not know many people can be daunting, but so many of our peers at Clayfield have put in the effort and pushed themselves out of their comfort zone. We were proud of each ensemble and the support they received from peers and our wider community.

We also invited Manidhi Chezhian (Class of 2025) back to the College, to present an inspiring and heart-warming speech reflecting on her time in the Clayfield music program. A proud Viotti and Alegria Strings member, Manidhi reminded students that it is not too late to learn an instrument, and to get involved in the encouraging support system that is the Clayfield music community.

Opus 2 Recap

Opus 2, which happened just last Thursday, included a multitude of gorgeous music performed by our talented ensembles with wide ranges of musical genres and styles.

A big shout out is to our very first all-boys choir, Ragazzi, who performed for the first time, featuring a few brave boys who sang solos loud and proud. We also had a 2000s throw back with Bye Bye Bye by NSYNC, performed by the Big Band that had everyone foot tapping and lip syncing. 

For Opus 2 we invited back Caitlin Southwell (Class of 2025), to answer some of our pressing music questions. During this Q&A session Caitlin shared the many opportunities that music has given her, including her participation in the 2023 Music tour to Europe and being able to form connections with people in other grades. Overall, she reflected on her long and impactful time with Clayfield music as well as encouraging younger students to get involved in any way they can. 

We are fully looking forward to further performances from our talented students, including those representing the College on the Europe Music Tour at the end of this term and Opus 3 early next term.
