National Simultaneous Story Time
On Wednesday 27th May, our Primary students gathered together to hear “Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller” for National Simultaneous Story Time. Everyone loved this year's story and were really engaged and excited to hear it read by Elise Kellond-Knight, a Matilda’s legend! The two authors and illustrator also gave an introduction to the story and why they wrote it. The powerful story about courage and self-belief, and of course soccer, has resulted in both Luna Roo and the second story “Trickshot Harri: The Cheetah world beater” being in high demand.
Symphony of Stories
This term we are beginning our look at the Children’s Book Week theme ‘Symphony of Stories’. Our students have been listening to a range of music-related stories and identifying the link to the music theme. Foundation this week looked at rhyming words in ‘The Wonky Donkey’ and Years 1 and 2 have listened to a story about the sounds we hear on the way to school. The Years 3 to Year 6 students have been investigating the idea of genre (kinds of fiction we group together such as mystery stories) and thinking of their reading choices as creating a symphony of stories. Our primary fiction is grouped in this way and helps students select books on the genre they like or to try a different genre.
End of Semester Overdue Books
The end of Term 2 is fast approaching. We have had a great two terms of borrowing and have been really pleased with the amount of reading our students have been doing. There have been 3,922 loans so far this year. We do however have a few long-term overdue books that we would love to come back, so others have a chance to borrow them.
Please speak to your children about any books they might have that need to find their way back to the Library. We regularly remind them and they will know. The holidays are a great chance to check under beds and car seats.
We have sent letters home about damaged or lost books and appreciate families dealing with this promptly. We currently have over 100 overdue library books.
