Careers Corner

Last week, members of the 9/10 Agriculture and Horticulture Elective had the opportunity to vist the Dookie Food and Fibre Day, Victoria’s Largest Food and Fibre Careers event, inspiring future industry leaders.

Students, educators, and industry professionals came together for an interactive showcase of opportunities across Agriculture, Horticulture, AgTech, Agribusiness and related industries.

The Plant VIBES Hub gave attendees an engaging introduction to plant sciences, exploring how crops are grown, vineyards produce wine, and innovative technologies are shaping the future of agriculture. Participants experienced hands-on activities and live demonstrations covering topics such as vineyard management, crop production and agrivoltaics, while learning about career pathways in food and wine production.

At the #LivestockHustle Hub, students gained practical insights into animal sciences through interactive workshops focused on livestock production, animal health, nutrition and welfare. Attendees had the opportunity to interact with animals, ask questions and discover the important role livestock play in the food industry, as well as the diverse career opportunities available within the sector.

The event provided an invaluable platform for our students to connect with leading scientists and industry experts, inspiring the next generation of professionals in Victoria’s food and fibre industries.

Rural Doctors Careers Day

Congratulations to Emily and Tyrelle from Year 10 for participating in the Rural Doctor Careers Day at Echuca Regional Health this week.

This exciting program provided students with a unique opportunity to explore pathways into medicine and gain firsthand experience in a hospital environment. Throughout the day, Emily and Tyrelle took part in a range of practical skills sessions, including learning how to measure blood pressure, use a stethoscope, perform a basic cardiac examination, practise surgical tying techniques, and complete ankle examinations and bandaging.

Students also enjoyed a question-and-answer session with junior doctors and medical students, where they gained valuable insights into medical training and careers in the health sector. A guided tour of the hospital gave participants an inside look at key departments, including maternity, surgery, intensive care and emergency services.

The Rural Doctor Careers Day offered an authentic and interactive experience, helping students better understand the realities and rewards of working in healthcare. Emily and Tyrelle represented our school with maturity, professionalism and enthusiasm throughout the day.

Well done to both students on embracing this valuable learning opportunity and taking an important step towards exploring future careers in medicine and health.
