Principal

In the previous newsletter I quoted, "Do not lead a successful life, lead a fulfilled life". I was at a past staff members funeral on Wednesday, John Downie. I did not know him like many staff members, but after the words from family and Fr Michael, John Downie lived a fulfilled life

John was more than a maintenance and grounds person at St Joseph's. He went about his work with passion and care for the staff, students and their families. His wife Gabby was a past principal. We keep Gabby, the children, extended family and friends in our thoughts and prayers.

Our prayers continue for Chrysostomar (Omar) Soledad of FCJ Year 12, 2025 and his family. We will celebrate the life of Omar on Saturday 27th June at St Joseph's church at 11am.

Principal announcement

I usually share announcements about our staff rather than about myself. However, today you received an email confirming my ongoing appointment as Principal from 2027. I am truly delighted to be joining St Joseph’s on a permanent basis.

This morning, when Libby Hamilton (CESL) shared the news with staff, I had the opportunity to speak with them and express my appreciation. I value the staff I will be working with as we continue to support your children.

I am enjoying our strong partnership with FCJ, and Joe Mount and I look forward to continuing to lead a vibrant and thriving educational community together.

I have often spoken about the joy I experience in my daily interactions with our students—their smiles and conversations were a significant factor in my decision to apply for this role. We are truly blessed with wonderful students, which is a testament to the support and values of our families.

Indigenous Garden

On Thursday we officially opened our Indigenous Garden. This was a very special 'smoking ceremony' and 'blessing'.  See the wellbeing page for further news. We are blessed to have a beautiful space to celebrate the Aboriginal culture.

Fr Deejay joined us at our week 9 assembly and spoke to the children. He has joined me on bus duty and joined us for the 'smoking ceremony' for our Indigenous Garden. Thank you Fr DJ for jumping straight into our community.

Enrolments

We continue to meet our new 2027 Foundation children and their families. This is such a joyful experience as we continue the child's journey to school. ENROLMENTS remain OPEN.

If you have a child starting in 2027, PLEASE ENROL NOW. We have started finalising classes for 2027. All schools in our system will finalise school budgets by August. This includes staffing requirements and class numbers.

We are one enrolment away from a waiting list in Year One for 2026 and with some pending enrolments in other year groups we may experience the same. This is a 'positive challenge' for our school.
