SAKG

I am thrilled to be teaching the junior classes gardening this term. There is so much to look forward to as we get ready to head outside and get our hands dirty. So far, we have been learning about how to stay safe in the garden and working together to form our garden groups.

Even before getting started on the big jobs, we have already had some exciting discoveries. Last week, we spotted a fascinating gumleaf katydid hiding among the leaves, and we were amazed to learn that the humble potato can also grow in a striking purple variety, with colour both on the outside and inside.

It has been a wonderful start to the term and we are all eager to see what else we will uncover in the garden in the weeks ahead!

Mini Market

Our Monty Primary Mini Market will begin in Week 3. Run by our Grade 6 students, the market features delicious food made using produce grown in our very own kitchen garden, all available for purchase after school.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop valuable, real-world skills such as handling money, preparing and serving food, providing customer service and managing a market stall.

It is also a wonderful way for families to support the Kitchen Garden program, with all proceeds going directly towards the ongoing purchase of gardening equipment and plants.

Did you know we raised over $300 at last term’s baked potato day? The potatoes were grown by the students themselves. Funds raised have already been used to purchase new, high-quality secateurs for use during garden classes.

Garden Volunteering

Have you thought about helping in the garden? Stay tuned for an exciting opportunity to volunteer in our school’s green spaces.

Happy gardening!
