The day we met our Prep Buddies!!!

On the fifth of March, all the Year Six’s officially met their prep buddies who were so cute and sweet. My buddy, Anna was so nice and we discovered that we had a lot in common. At first, I was nervous to meet her but it all turned out ok, I was so happy I got to finally spend some time getting to know her. I was so proud of myself because I got to be a role model for Anna. We did a getting to know you activity with our buddies so that we could take their sheets to help us plan activities according to what they like. They would take our sheet and gave it to their parents, so they got to know their childs buddies/buddy. We are so excited to meet them again next week for games out on the oval!

On Thursday the 5th of March, the Year 6’s got to meet their prep buddies. Prep and Year 6 buddies meet every three weeks and do fun activities that we plan. This week we did a get to know each other activity called, Marvellous Me. All the Year 6’s and Prep’s each did their own sheet and then we swapped with our buddies at the end of the session, so we can get to know what our buddy enjoys and likes. I was sharing a buddy with Zara and our prep’s name was Norah. She was lovely and super friendly, and I already knew we were going to be best friends! I learned that we had a lot in common, like our favourite colour was both rainbow! It was an exciting day for both of us and even though I was slightly nervous it went amazingly. For our next buddies session, we are going to be playing ball games on the oval with them. We will also start planning activities based on their Marvellous Me sheet and then our prep buddies are going to plan activities for us! It’s a fun experience over all, especially when I see my buddy in the yard and they wave or come running up to me giving me a hug! I can’t wait for our next buddies session and getting to play fun games with them!

It was the first week meeting our Prep Buddies, most Year 6 students had a buddy except for a few because their prep was away. I met my buddy, Shawn in the Sanctuary and I also had a partner, Jason with him. Our first activity with our buddy was doing a getting to know you sheet where you fill in some sections like your favorite color and a self portrait of themselves. There were other boxes to fill out like your favorite food or your favorite toy. While I was filling out my sheet I helped my buddy as well as my partner helping him. At the end of the session my buddy and I swapped sheets so he could take me and my partners home, and I could take his one home. Finally, my buddy and I said bye to each other and we went back to our classrooms.

When the year 6 students met their buddies, it was terrific. The way that all the buddies and Year 6’s communicated so briefly with each other making this an unforgettable session. We all did a get to know each other activity in the sanctuary, the buddies and year 6’s both showed great connection to each other.
