Upcoming String Events

Redlands Eisteddfod

All of the year 6 string students and selected year 5 students and Chamber Strings will be competing at the Redlands Eisteddfod in 2 weeks.  We will travel by but to Ormiston College and parents will need to provide transport home.  This is an amazing opportunity for our small class groups to perform for an audience with no help from Ms Weekes and all on their own, with no conductor and in groups of 4-9 students.  It can be quite daunting but I know our groups will rise to the challenge and do us proud.  Keep practicing students, 2 weeks to go

Fanfare State Finals

We will be traveling into Southbank by bus to go to the Queensland Conservatorium of Music to a sound check early on Thursday the 13th and then returning to school. Parents will then bring students back, meeting at the rainbow stairs at 3:45pm, for their performance at the State Finals.  This is going to be very exciting, and I know everyone is working hard at memorizing their music.

Fanfare Regional Finals Roundup

The Chamber Strings are one of 5 groups from all of Queensland performing at the upcoming State Finals of Fanfare.  This group has worked very hard to achieve this standard and should be very proud of all their hard work.  They will be performing on the 13th of August at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music Griffith University.  Here are some of the thoughts from the students from their Regional Final success

Fanfare Regional Finals - A grand occasion that Chamber Strings, and only Chamber Strings, was able to get into. Every two years, a musical competition between Strings and Band groups from many schools is hosted, and it is known as Fanfare. I was mostly aiming to get into State Finals, but winning the whole competition would be the best thing I could ever wish for. The last time Chamber Strings won this was in 2016. Time to change that!  Listening to the other groups’ performances, they were mostly good. I am proud of our performances where one of the pieces, ‘Wayfaring Stranger’, was done unconducted, which meant that watching the leader (me) and keeping in time was vital. Then, we played ‘Theme from Jupiter’, which I think we did really well, as well as ‘The Code’.  When me and Jacob went up onto the stage to receive our prizes, I knew we would get a trophy thing (though I don’t know what it is so I call it a crystal thing). And we did!!!  Everyone kept wanting to hold it and it got smeared with fingerprints, but that just shows that we were really proud that we did so well and earned a crystal trophy.  By then, we figured out we got in to State Finals! This, of course, was expected, but it was still wonderful news for me.

We went to the regionals for fanfare on bus, when we arrived at the museum, we headed into a really big practice room. After setting our things down we went to lunch (And also listened to some other schools). Soon after, we had a little practice before our performance, the practice room was really big and the sound sounded really nice. Then one of the people organizing this program told us that we were going to have to be ready to go on stage. During the performance, it was exciting and nerve wrecking due to the other schools listening, but mostly the adjudicators. But at the end when they announced the finalists for fanfare we all heard: “Ironside State School”. Yippe!
