Foundation
Literacy
In Literacy, we have been learning the sounds ‘ay’ and ‘ng’. Students have been practising blending these sounds to read words such as ‘thing’, ‘day’ and ‘play’. In Writing, we have been re-reading our work to engage in the editing process. Students have been using a check list to ensure their writing; makes sense, has a capital letter at the beginning, has a full stop at the end and has spaces between the words.
Numeracy
In Numeracy, we have been learning about sharing and grouping. Students have been practising being able to identify whether a number can be shared equally into two groups. To accompany this, we have been learning about odd and even numbers.
Religion
In Religion, our focus has been 'Let’s Celebrate Creation'. Students have been exploring all the beauty in God’s creation. We have been creating creatures such as birds, fish and plants using different art techniques.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, we have been learning about Visual Arts. Students have explored the importance of colour in artwork and how colours can be used to express different emotions and feelings. We have been investigating a range of visual art techniques and explore how visual art is expressed across different cultures.
At home you could reinforce learning by:
- Read a story with someone at home. Talk about what happened at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the story.
- Practise writing all your letters using lower case letter formation.
- Complete the below:

- Create your own “groups of” picture. Talk to someone at home about what you have drawn.

Year 1
Literacy
In Literacy, students have been learning to spell words with the 'tch' and 'ch' letter patterns. They have been practising the tricky words other, another, and water, and using them in their reading and writing activities. In writing, students have been planning and researching information reports about different types of clouds. As part of this unit, they also created their own Cloud Spotter to help identify and describe clouds, building their observation and reporting skills.
Numeracy
In Numeracy, students have been learning about sharing and grouping numbers. They have explored ways to split whole numbers into smaller groups and have developed their understanding of equal sharing. Students have also been using arrays to count rows and columns, helping them build confidence in recognising number patterns and developing early multiplication skills.
Religion
In Religion, students have been exploring the wonders of God's creation and developing an appreciation for the world around them. Through our learning, students are discovering ways that we can care for creation and be responsible stewards of the environment. We have focused on understanding how human actions can affect our waterways and discussed the importance of reducing plastic waste to help keep rivers, lakes, and oceans clean. Students are learning that even small actions, such as recycling and using less plastic can make a positive difference in caring for God's creation.
Visual Arts
In Visual Arts topic, students have completed a range of amazing artworks and combined them into a book to take home and share with their families. They have also begun creating a sculpture using a recycled bottle as the base. Students have added a head, arms and legs, and are currently covering the body. They will complete their sculptures by painting them, adding colour and detail to their creative designs.
At home you could reinforce learning by:

- Find words in your take home reader with the sound 'tch and 'ch.
- Write a report using the structure of headings subheadings and diagram
- Practice putting the tricky words, couldn't, shouldn't and wouldn't into sentences.
- Listen to your child read their reader each night.

Year 2
Literacy
In Literacy, during spelling, students have been learning about when to use the letter 'k' or 'c' when spelling words. They learnt the rule...if the letter that follows the /c/ sound is an e, i or y they need to choose the letter 'k' (skip, sky, keep). If it doesn't then they choose the letter 'c' (cat, comb, clap). Tricky words we have been focusing on together, any, many.
Grammar
During grammar lessons, students have been continuing to learn about verbs. They identified moving (swim, run, jump), saying (whisper, yell, mumble), feeling (love, feel, want) and thinking (wonder, understood, believe) verbs. The students had to use these verbs to write sentences.
Comprehension
During comprehension, students have been learning how to monitor their understanding while reading. They are aware of the 4 steps used to monitor whilst reading difficult text. These include:
- Read
- Stop & Retell (a partner)
- Check (for understanding and unknown vocabulary words)
- Fix (re-read with new understanding)
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students continue their work around multiplication and division. They have been learning to represent sharing and grouping with arrays.
Religion
In Religion, we have been learning about how we can care for creation. We are exploring ways to look after the world by caring for people, animals, and the environment. Students are developing an understanding of how their actions can help protect and respect God's creation.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, our topic is Visual Arts. This week students have used paint and collage to create a Japanese inspired cherry blossom artwork.
At home you could reinforce learning by:
Literacy
- Practice writing sentences using a variety of verbs (moving, saying, feeling and thinking verbs).
Listen to your child read their reader each night. When reading, students could practice using the ‘monitoring’ strategy to retell what the text is about.
