Book Week Wrap Up
Book Week Parade
The excitement leading up to the parade was a delight to behold. The thrill in the air upon arriving at school seeing friends and parading around in front of the school was a pleasure to watch. We sincerely appreciate all the efforts parents went to in assisting with costumes. We hope the sheer enjoyment and happiness displayed on all participants' faces made your efforts worthwhile.
Author visits
Foundation - Year 2
Jake Minton visited Foundation, Year 1, and Year 2 students, sharing stories from his life and reading from his wonderful books. He also spoke to students about the process and time it takes to get a book published. Students were treated to shared illustrations on the whiteboard, with several getting the chance to draw alongside him. A brilliant, engaging session that brought storytelling to life for our young learners!
Year 3 & 4
Last Monday Year 3 & 4 were visited by Judith Rossell. They enjoyed learning about how illustrators interpret words and make them into a book. Students were also given the chance to design their own characters using broad guidelines, and explored how emotions can vary illustrations.
Year 5 & 6
Anna Zobel, the much‑loved author and illustrator, visited NLPS this week and delivered an inspiring session for our students. She shared the story of how she became both a writer and an illustrator, explaining the creative journey that led her to publish her books. One of the highlights was hearing how she uses archived newspapers hidden deep within the State Library Victoria to spark ideas for her characters, settings, and storylines - a wonderful reminder that inspiration can come from unexpected places.
Anna also taught the students simple drawing techniques and, more importantly, helped them believe that everyone can draw. The room was buzzing with creativity, confidence, and excitement as students sketched alongside her.
Overall, it was a fantastic visit. Anna was engaging, generous, and full of encouragement.
Buskers
During book week, in keeping with the theme of ‘symphony of stories', we were lucky enough to have some of our talented students volunteer their time to perform at lunchtime for us. Our audiences were in awe of the skills displayed and delighted by the entertainment provided. Congratulations performers, we loved it!
Book Fair
Thank you once again to Robyn Grayson and her amazing book fair team! We really appreciate your efforts in providing this opportunity for students to purchase books, which goes towards supporting the purchase of books for the library.
Book Week Quiz
During book week, students enjoyed solving puzzles around the school yard. How well do you know your book characters and instruments? See if you can solve some of the silhouette posters that were displayed around the school.
Footy Colours Day, Hot Dog Lunch & Raffle
Wednesday 16th September is our annual Footy Colours Day!
For a gold coin donation to go towards 'Fight Cancer Foundation' supporting children's cancer, students can wear their footy colours or team jersey! The traditional Year 6 vs Teachers game will also be taking place again.

Students are also holding a raffle to win a signed Western Bulldogs jumper. Tickets are $1 each or 3 for $2 and will be available in the weeks leading up to Footy Colours Day. School Captains will visit classes for students to purchase if they wish.

DEATH ON THE DECK!
Join us for an immersive evening of murder mystery and intrigue on the high seas, performed and written by our senior students.
There is no set seating for this production. Performances are happening concurrently in a simultaneous staging environment as the audience moves about from room to room.
Tickets are open to Year 5 and 6 families first, and purchases can be made with the password sent to those families.
Any remaining tickets will be opened to the rest of the school community from Monday 14th September.
The performances will be held at the Newport Substation on Thursday 29th October.
Show times as below (including intermission)
- Matinee - 1:15pm to 2:45pm - $17
- Evening - 6:30pm to 8pm - $27
*Doors open 15 minutes prior to show times.
Please be mindful of which performance you are purchasing tickets for (matinee or evening) as tickets are non-refundable.
Tickets may be transferable for the same performance time only e.g. matinee for matinee / evening for evening.

Term 4 Kids Unlimited
In Term 4, TeamKids - in conjunction with Kids Unlimited - are excited to continue Science Club for students in Foundation to Year 4, as an extra curricular class after school, starting 13th October!
Families do not need to be booked into TeamKids to be eligible to enrol.

Student Achievements
Tennis
Congratulations to James O in Year 6, who spent the week in Brisbane last week representing Victoria at the Bruce Cup, which is a School Sports Australia Inter-state tennis tournament. The team finished 5th overall, only just missing out on medals by 1 point. What an amazing achievement none-the-less! Congratulations James!
Big Summer Read
We’re pleased to let you know that the winner of the Hobsons Bay Libraries Big Summer Read 2025–2026 from Newport Lakes Primary is Charlotte H in Year 6.
The Big Summer Read is a nationwide program run by Public Libraries Victoria, designed to encourage children and young people to keep reading over the summer holidays and support literacy development.
Maria from Hobsons Bay Library visited the school last Friday to surprise Charlotte with the award. Congratulations Charlotte, what a great effort!
