Sustainability Corner

The students in the Sustainability Leadership Team, as part of their role and responsibility attended the Port Phillip Sustainability Festival - an opportunity to collaborate with students from other schools and bring together their knowledge, passion and determination to make a more sustainable future for everyone.
Here’s what they had to say…
On Thursday the 3rd of September the Sustainability Team and Junior Members all went to the St Kilda Town Hall for the Port Phillip School Sustainability Festival!
First, we set up our fun sustainable workshop and then went to our seats and met some important people like the Mayor of Stonington and the Mayor of Glen Eira. Next, we presented our workshop to a group of kids from all different schools. Everyone made a fern print bookmark which was a little reminder of how unique the world is and can be.
We also went to several other schools’ workshops, including making zines about the world’s future, making plant pots out of old milk cartons and playing a fun game of match the flora and fauna to its name. After this, we all enjoyed some morning tea of fruit and muffins in the main hall. At the awards ceremony, Ripponlea receive a certificate, a plant and some resources from Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme.
Together, all the schools walked to the St Kilda Botanical Gardens where we had lunch and met a Shingleback Lizard and a shy turtle. After lunch, everyone went to do two more fun activities learning about frogs, insects and recycling. We all had a big group photo, packed up our bags, and then were collected by our parents.
It was definitely a fun day for the Sustainability Team and also a great learning experience.
We know that Ripponlea Primary School can certainly learn and grow in their sustainability practices from this experience.
We are so pleased you had such a great time and look forward to you sharing this with other young rippers in the school.
Thank you also Dave for attending this with the team.
Sounds like it was a fun and enjoyable learning experience.
Next term we look forward to spring planting, more children in the garden and seeing you at market stall.
Of course we will start looking for new school parents to join us not only in the garden but with a couple of important and significant energy and waste projects that are in the mix.
We also have one more very special LEADERSHIP SPOTLIGHT on our final student leader.
Watch this space and until next term,
Enjoy the sunshine and a great holiday break,
The Green Team
