Terrific Times in Year Two

In Writing, students have been learning about cinquain poetry and have been working hard to create their own poems. A cinquain poem is a five-line poem where each line has a specific purpose. Students use nouns, adjectives and verbs to describe a topic, before finishing with a synonym. We have enjoyed exploring descriptive language and using interesting vocabulary to make our poems engaging for an audience. At home, you can support this learning by encouraging your child to describe everyday objects, places, or experiences using interesting adjectives and verbs, or even challenge them to create a simple cinquain poem about a favourite animal or activity.  

In Inquiry, we have been investigating precincts within our community and discussing how sustainable features and community rules help keep people safe and support the environment. Students have explored a range of community spaces and considered how people can act responsibly when using them. As part of this learning, students have been designing and constructing different precincts using a variety of materials collected from both school and home. You can continue this learning at home by discussing the rules and sustainable features you notice when visiting local parks, shopping centres, sporting facilities, or other community spaces and talking about why they are important for keeping people safe and caring for the environment.
