Thriving in Year Three

The Year 3 students have had a busy and engaging fortnight of learning across all curriculumareas.

In Religious Education, students have been exploring the three Sacraments of Initiation:Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. They have been learning about how these sacramentswelcome us into God’s family and deepen our relationship with Him. Students have also investigated the significance of the symbols associated with each sacrament, including water in Baptism, bread and wine in the Eucharist and oil in Confirmation.

In Science, students have been carefully nurturing their bean plants by ensuring they receive enough water and sunlight. They have enjoyed observing, measuring and recording changes throughout the bean life cycle. There is great excitement as students prepare to take their plantshome over the school holidays to continue caring for them.

In English, students have been reading and writing a variety of poems. They have explored the use of onomatopoeia to create vivid and engaging imagery, incorporating words such as “BANG!” and “CRASH!” into their writing. Students have also enjoyed composing their own Haiku and Cinquain poems using the features of each poetic form.

In Mathematics, students have been developing their understanding of addition and subtractionusing vertical algorithms with and without regrouping. Through the use of concrete materials andstrategies such as estimation, they have strengthened their confidence and accuracy whensolving mathematical problems.
