Welcome Back team!

It has been wonderful to see students back in the library, borrowing books and enjoying Lunch Club. The library is already buzzing with readers, and it’s great to see such enthusiasm early in the year.

Library Layout

The library had a big clean-out and refresh over the break, including updated signage. All areas now feature front-facing tubs throughout the space to make browsing easier and more inviting for students.

Library Expectations

All classes have participated in a short presentation outlining library expectations. Karoo students are usually excellent and respectful library users, so this was simply a way to ensure everyone is on the same page.

Students and families are reminded that:

• All loans are for 2 weeks
• Books should be returned on time to avoid overdue notices
• No library bag, no borrowing, this helps keep books safe
• Shelf markers should be used while browsing
• The library should be left as it was found after your class’s library session. 

Book Care Reminder

Please help us look after our books by keeping them clean and safe. Please don’t read while eating or drinking, use clean hands, and keep books away from younger siblings and pets at home.

Library Captains 2026

I am excited to introduce our Library Captains for 2026. We will have the opportunity to learn more about them and their role in the library over the coming weeks.

What's coming up in 2026

• Premier’s Reading Challenge to begin in March. More details coming soon
• National Simultaneous Reading will be in May reading “Luna Roo” 
• Book Week theme for 2026 is “Symphony of Stories”
• February Displays:
  • Read Like a Champion (celebrating the Winter Olympics)
  • Reading Is Sweet (celebrating Library Lovers’ Day on February 14)Students are invited to make a heart for the library window during Lunch Club.

Overdue books

Families with overdue items from 2025 will receive reminder emails next week.

Our overdue process for 2026 will be:

• Students reminded once an item becomes overdue (after 2 weeks)
• Teacher informed and discussion with the student
• Parent contacted
• If the book is not returned, payment will be required for replacement
